New Delhi: There seems to be no end to the problems of parents seeking nursery admissions for their wards in the national capital.

Many of them, who couldn’t get admission for their children in the Delhi schools, are left with no choice but to look for schools in neighbouring Noida, Faridabad and Gurgaon.

According to Sumit Vohra, admissionsnursery.com founder, parents are playing it safe by blocking seats in Noida, Faridabad, Kundli and Gurgaon schools as the upper age limit for nursery admissions is subjudice. “The high court had stayed the directorate of education notification for fixing the upper age limit for nursery admissions at four years. If this case is decided in favour of the DoE, then next year, children above four years won’t be eligible for nursery. Till last year, many unsuccessful parents used to continue in play school. But due to upper cut-off factor, many are not taking chances this year, even though the DoE circular on December 19, 2016, states that no school can keep upper cut-off age cap,” said Mr Vohra.

One of the parents from Saket said that even after applying in 37 schools in South Delhi, he could not procure a seat, following which he took admission for his child in a Faridabad school.

“I did not get admission for my child in any decent school of South Delhi, so without wasting a year, I enrolled my child in Modern Charmswood, Faridabad,” said Vipin.

Meanwhile, after the release of first list for nursery admission, the problem of Delhi schools asking for donations from parents under several garbs has again come to the fore. Parents have complained that some private schools have asked “huge sums” in the name of orientation.

When contacted, Apeejay School principal Anita Paul said, “I am not aware of any such demand.” Many parents are even disappointed because they have not got admission in schools of their choice.

“Only parents having the advantage of sibling and alumni points have got admissions in the established schools. But for the first time, the parents applying in as many schools are unable to get admission anywhere,” said Mr Vohra.
