My kids are in Rama Krishna and the school bags are too heavy. Even I am not able to carry the same on my shoulders.

 Yes Sarika

Thats common complaint of most of the parents .

i don't like the idea that every time govt come up with bizarre things which reduce the burden in students "mentally or physically"... what kind of future adults we are preparing???

who cannot handle burden of life. i know most of so called progressive people here and around will not like my thoughts but if we think the other side we all will realize that we must prepare our kids to face the harshness of real life... and how long we can pamper them and keep them safe from real life problems...carrying bag and doing homework must be part of child's formal education.

Mahesh  I agree but here It is being asked by schools to just lighten the weight  of school bag. When same work can be done in systematic  way then  to burden kids unnecessarily.

Agree agree maam.... but govt has different intention and we teachers see it as a conspiracy theory.... to just destroy the whole education system of india and just to please parents and children who are there voters and wouldbe voters....

In india educational institutions are used widely for there cheap political moves... we all know it all...

my kid is in nursery and he was required to carry all his books daily when the teacher has started only with the patterns!!! i removed books which are not being taught now from his bag and now send only two books, one tiffin, one extra set of undergarments, one bottle. why should he carry all the books daily when they are not being used at this time??? i am waiting for her madam to write in the diary to send the books if required, simple.

Exactly Dr Samar ,Right way .

Dr. Maam.... my kid's school do not burden kids with bags..... but at senior classes kids can carry bag and should be given homework... what is the problem with this??

And as a teacher i want to say that homework should not be given to children... because they are not doing it properly and we teachers  can't do any thing....

I feel home work is  one of the best ways for our child to remember, practice and therefore retain the skills they learned at school.

but Lathaa maam.... i have seen as soon as kids progress to senior classes there interest in homework is reduced and they shy away from homework and every day kids bring new kind of excuses not to do homework at home......

so i think homework should be banned.. students - parnets happy ... teachers happy.... and then don't cry foul on the falling grades of kids....

It's a great welcome move by DOE and now both parents and children are relieved from the heavy burden by reducing their stress physically and mentally. It used to be a common sight to see young kids carrying bags heavier than them and the heavy weight which tends them pull backwards.  his will effect the small bones, shoulder muscles and spine. Since back pain is a common problem in our current lifestyle a "child friendly bag" is highly recommended one with back padded, padded shoulder straps and worn on both shoulders by equally distributing the weight. Totally a school bag should not be more than 10% of their weight.
