Despite Delhi Government’s strict warnings against erring schools, several schools continued to flout Directorate of Education guidelines on Friday and insisted upon managing the schools according to their own rules. The schools that flouted guidelines included Vivekananda School, Preet Vihar; St Lawrence School, Geeta Colony and Kalka Public School, Alaknanda. Paying no heed to the guidelines St Lawrence School is asking parents to deposit the fees by January 24, else their admission would be cancelled. Blatantly flouting the DoE guidelines, Kalka Public School, too, is allegedly taking a higher amount as fee from parents and issuing receipts of much lesser amounts. While Vivekananda School is giving away nursery seats on first-come, first-served basis.

Mother of a three-year-old from Madhuban in East Delhi said, “Vivekanand School had asked me for a donation of `5,000, even before the display of its first list. Though my daughter managed to qualify, the school management asked me to dposit the fees on the day of declaration of results. The school warned me saying, if I do not deposit the fees, then my daughter might not get admission later”. Another parent, said, “Though my daughter’s name is on the first list, Vivekananda School is saying that the admission will be on first-come, first-served basis”.

According to parents’ allegations, Kalka Public School is asking them to submit `37,000 as admission fees and then giving receipt of `26,000 against the same. A parent on admissionsnursery.com said, “Kalka Public School is asking for a payment of `27,000 by cheque with receipt in return of the same amount, but after paying in cash `10,000 (non-refundable), the school management is not issuing any receipt for the same. I want to register a complaint. I do not know how to go about it. Someone please help.”

Father of a three-year-old from East Delhi said, “These schools are acting in their own way. St Lawrence School is asking parents to deposit the fees, which is non-refundable, by January 24; otherwise the school management will cancel the admissions. What, if my child gets selected in a better school, I will obviously lose this amount”. St Lawrence School had declared its first list on January 20 and the fees they are asking for is `15,700, he further said.

Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com said, “How can the fees be non-refundable. The schools have no right to threaten the parents in this manner. Parents should be given adequate time to deposit the fees”. The New Era School, Rohini which declared its result on January 18, is also asking the parents to deposit the fees by January 22.

Meanwhile, RC Jain, president of Delhi School Public Schools Management Association, an umbrella organisation of more than 1300 schools remained firm on his stand of not giving admission to the EWS category.

Jain said, “We will not give admission to EWS in any case”. Delhi Government had said on Thursday that all city schools will have to give 25 per cent seats to the EWS category otherwise strict action will be taken against the schools.

Hi,

I was eagerly waiting for the Indian school's 1st list. But very disappointed at the outcome. All d points given to transferred cases.  How can it be possible??? We need to do something against it. Schools cant do these discrepancies.

Sakshi, how is amrita vidyalayam, pushpvihar saket? have any idea? please reply.....
Slightly above average
Similar allegations are against Ryan International School - Vasant Kunj - they asked Rs 1 lac from parents to be paid within next 2 / 3 days to ensure seat in the school. This is simply asking for bribes...and the way this is being done is extremely blatant and I believe that this is robbery by daylight. I wonder why the government is silent ...I understand, after talking to people, that this is the way how the admissions are being done in Delhi. I am surprised and shocked!!
It appears that the Schools and the Government are one.
