GURGAON: Two dozen young parents queued up before the gates of a school in Sector 57 as early as 11pm on Wednesday in a race to be the first ones to get nursery admission forms to be issued at 9am on Thursday.
The long queue and desperation to get a seat in nursery was the consequence of a 'first-come-first-served' policy of Scottish High International School. The 25-odd parents were joined by nearly 80 others as the day progressed.
The parents who managed to fill out the forms at the earliest on Thursday — as per the school's announcement — stand a better chance of seeing their wards' names make it to the final list, which will be released on Tuesday."When I came at 8 am, there were more than 100 parents waiting," said Kanika Mathur (name changed).
The school authorities, however, did not find anything wrong in the admission policy they follow. "The alternative policy would be to organize a draw of lots. But that means inviting everyone, including those who are not seriously interested. Some schools sell thousands of forms to the aspiring parents while the seats are only a handful. But we sold only 220 forms while the number of seats is 175," said Sudha Goyal, director of the school.
Parents have no qualms about the same. "We had sent our driver to wait on behalf of us until early morning. We waited near the reception area and the school authorities made arrangement of snacks for us," said a parent.
An expert in school admission, however, lashed out at the school. "Why cannot the school upload admission forms on website or give forms for the entire day?" asked Sumit Vohra, founder of 'admissionnursery.com'.
When contacted, Surina Rajan, additional chief secretary of school education of Haryana, said, "A separate policy for nursery admission can't be made for Gurgaon."

are these schools or some elite clubs???!!! 1.75 lakh per quarter?? and that too just for nursery?? what a business education has become...
