Nursery admissions to become headache for parents

WE FOLLOW THE DELHI SYSTEM WHERE NURSERY ADMISSIONS ARE DONE AT THE AGE OF 3+ YEARS. IF THERE IS A REGULATORY BODY, IT WILL HELP SCHOOL AUTHORITIES AND PARENTS GURGAON: NEHA VERMA, admissions coordinator, GD Goenka Public School Sec 48 Gurgaon

With nursery admissions commencing in August, absence of a uniform age criteria in city schools has become a matter of concern for parents in Gurgaon.

While, Delhi follows a strict age limit of 3+ years as on March 31, Gurgaon schools here have tweaked the age limit confusing parents.

Some schools admit students who are 3+ years as on March 31, while others admit students who are 3.5+ years. Many schools also have an upper age limit, narrowing choice of schools for many.

Unlike Delhi, where the directorate of education handles the admission procedure, Gurgaon has no such body.

“My son and my friend’s son are barely months apart in age. Yet my son is in nursery while my friend’s son is studying in kindergarten in Delhi. There is a need for a standard age criteria across the country so that it does not hamper a child’s education even when the family moves to a different city,” said Anamica

Experts say that Gurgaon schools are taking advantage of the absence of a governing body by creating rules to suit their convenience.

Meanwhile, the schools who admit students at the age of 3+ years said that a uniform age criteria will help in the admission procedure. “We follow the Delhi system where nursery admissions are done at the age of 3+ years. If there is a formal body to regulate the admissions, it would help school authorities and parents. For April 2015, the admissions begin in August-September 2014 when the academic session for other classes is at its peak making it difficult for the schools to manage both simultaneously,” said Neha Verma, admissions coordinator, GD Goenka Public School, Sector 48.

“Schools should be allowed to decide whether they want to admit a child who is 3+ or 3.5+ years and there is no need for a regulatory body. The only requisite is that the student should be 5+ years when they enter class 1,” said Pratap Singh Yadav, president, Haryana Progressive Schools’ Conference.

It is surprise to learn that no regulatory body is there to control nursery admission just at the Delhi border. A system to regulate things in such a commercial place is a must. Gurgaon is IT hub for NCR then why this lapse!

Yes Ranjan

Mr Vohra has highlighted this point in above article n earlier also but whole NCR has given free hand to schools and there is no rule for common  age criteria / form dates / result dates so that parents just block money in single school/  no uniform fee policy refund also in Gurgaon .

Yes Mam Mr.Vohra is highlighting this issue year after year.

A regulatory body is very essential in Gurgaon where they follow their own age criteria and schedule till date. Whole NCR should follow the common admission schedule and criteria as Delhi and abolish screening the kids and parents during admission process in name of interaction and interview.
