New Delhi: While the parents seeking nursery admission for their toddlers in the national capital are still facing hurdles, the problems faced by them is all set to be shown on-screen. With Irrfan Khan-starrer Hindi Medium focusing on true experiences of parents, releasing this month, parents expect it to be an eye-opener for the schools and Delhi government.

Founder of admissionsnursery.com Sumit Vohra’s only book on nursery admissions in India inspired the director of the film Saket Chaudhary, which led him to do a continuous research for three years on plight faced by parents.

“Mr Chaudhary has written various popular television serial and directed good films too. He is an active member of my forum since 2013, and contacted me along with co-writer Zeenat Lakhani, after reading my book to understand the plight of parents. The three of us researched together and met several parents in Delhi. Even he carried out research in other parts but majority of the research and shooting is done in Delhi only.

The movie is based on a couple staying in Chandi Chowk and seeking admission in the city. An invitation for pre-screening of the film has also been sent to the education minister and his team, we are awaiting their confirmation,” Mr Vohra said.

Nidhi Arora, a resident of Vasant Vihar is one such parent, whose experience during her daughter’s admission ten years back plays an important part of the research. Expressing happiness over the film, parents said that after going through such mental agony, they are feeling proud to see a movie highlighting their real life experiences.

“I met Saket ji twice at Mr Vohra’s residence and while narrating, I had to go through the whole process again, which was depressing. It was a nightmare for me, as my daughter could not secure a single seat in any of the 14 schools that I had applied to. I was so depressed that I had cut away with my social life. I wasted one year for my older daughter’s admission. What is more disturbing is that even my second child had to go through a similar situation in 2014,” Ms. Arora said.

Expressing happiness over the film, parents said that after going through such mental agony, they are feeling proud to see a movie highlighting their real life experiences. “The plight faced by parents now goes global. I hope that the film gives out a message to the schools and government about the hardships we face,” said Narain Kumar.
