Ghaziabad: The fate of about 1,900 students hangs in balance as the Ghaziabad administration has cancelled the registration of 13 private schools in the district. These schools were operating without obtaining the mandatory no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the state government. The district magistrate said the displaced students will be accommodated in other schools.

"Over the past few days, we have been carrying out inspections of private schools and we found that 13 were functioning in the city without acquiring NOCs from the state government and without any affiliation from examination boards," district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari told TOI on Thursday. "All these schools have been ordered to close down with immediate effect," she added.

These schools admitted students from primary classes till eighth standard, and 1,873 students will be affected due to their closure.

When asked about the fate of these students, Maheshwari said, "We have prepared a list of the number of students who will be affected by the closure of 13 schools and they will be accommodated in other schools under the supervision of basic siksha adhikari."

Some prominent schools that have been affected by the district administration's action includes Presidium Public School in Raj Nagar Extension, where a maximum of 907 students will be displaced.

According to the list provided by basic siksha adhikari, four schools in Vijaynagar area, which includes JK Angel Convent School with 49 students, Daisy Dales Academy with 87 students, Goodwill Public School with 162 students and DS Public School with 14 students, will also be affected.

"In Sidharth Vihar area, five schools have been asked to close down in which in which nearly 300 students from nursery to eighth standard standard were studying," said Bipin Kumar, the basic siksha adhikari.

Reacting to the district administration's closure order, an office-bearer of the Presidium Group termed the action "unjustified". "As far as affiliation from any board norm goes, it is needed only after eighth, while we have applied for NOC from the state government in January this year, but have not got it yet. So, we cannot be blamed for that," the office-bearer said.

Meanwhile, the parents of the students have been left confused. "Why did the district administration wake up so late? Now in the middle of the academic session which school will give admission to our wards," asked Prahlad Kumar, a parent.
