Nursery admissions may be a month away but parents have already started paperwork to avoid any last minute rush. The physical distance of students’ home to their prospective school will remain the major criteria for all admissions. Parents are therefore preparing address proofs to serve that purpose.
“There has always been this confusion about address proofs because several schools don’t accept rent agreements as residential proof,” says Mansi Sharma, who lives in a rented accommodation in Mayur Vihar, in East Delhi.
Rahman Khan, who is seeking admission for her daughter, is worried. She lives in old Delhi but wants her daughter to be admitted to a south Delhi school. “Either I wait for several cut-offs to get the school of my choice or compromise and choose the nearest school,” she said. Several parents are also stressed about birth certificates as schools ask for a birth certificate with the child’s name on it.
“We don’t have a birth certificate with our son’s name on it, right now. So we have to apply for one with his name on it,” says Anshuman Singh, who is hoping to get his three-year-old son admitted in a good school. “It takes almost three weeks for municipal corporations to print a child’s name on the birth certificate. It can only be done by the issuing authority,” says Vohra. According to a government official, Delhi govt has drafted a set of guidelines for this year’s nursery admission and sent it to LG Najeeb Jung for approval.
