GURUGRAM: Traumatised parents, who had gathered to protest the killing of a seven-year-old at Ryan International School, said on Saturday that they no longer had the confidence to send their children to the school. They said the tragedy had belied the belief of parents that a school represents safety and security for students.

"I am not sending my children to class from Monday and will request all parents to withdraw their children from this school," said a flustered Megha Jha, whose kids study in Classes IV and VI. Asked where she would take the youngsters mid-session, she answered, "Honestly, I haven't thought about that, but after what happened it is impossible for me to send my children to this school."

Other parents too have talked of similar fears. "There is no question that my daughter will continue studying here," declared Subodh Kumar. "The boy was her classmate and she is in trauma. Even if I ask her, she won't agree to return to school."

Rajendra Gupta, whose son is in the preparatory class, said he couldn't take the images of the slain child out of his mind. "Whenever I think of this school, I am reminded of what happened to that boy. I cannot muster the moral courage to send my child to study here," said the visibly shaken Gupta.
