Our Webmater Sumit Vohra Challenges Dps Rkpuram Point System - Coach or Player is A proffesion and School has given Points to them which are totally against the rules MAIL TODAY 31 DEC
THE DELHI government’s order prohibiting schools from giving admission to a child on the basis of his/ her parents’ professional or education background has failed to deter Delhi Public School, RK Puram.
The school on Thursday announced an admission policy that favours parents who have participated in the Olympics, Asiad or the Commonwealth Games. The children of parents who participated in these international events, either as coaches or players, will be awarded six points. This will give them an edge over other applicants.
The admission guidelines issued by the state government this year stipulated that parents’ education/ profession couldn’t be an admission criterion.
The Right to Education ( RTE) Act, which came into effect this year, too, prohibits the ‘ profiling’ of parents.
But the school principal, D. R. Saini, doesn’t think the criterion violates the government’s guidelines or the RTE Act. In his opinion, sport doesn’t qualify as a profession. “ This criterion does not discriminate on the basis of class, caste, income or community. The question of discriminating on the basis of parents’ professional background does not arise as sport is not a profession,” he said.
His argument is unlikely to convince other parents.
“ Schools are announcing admission criteria that are discriminatory in nature. Though the government has given them a free hand to decide their admission policy, private schools need to realise that parents are not foolish and can see through their agenda,” Sumit Vohra, who runs an online portal called admissionsnursery. com , said.
Last year, many schools had awarded points to kids of certain professionals. Education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely assured that this time, the erring schools will be brought to book. He was not reachable for comments on Thursday
Mr. Vohra this issue u hv raised is very gud but plz take other cases also when qualification an dprofession are nt getting any points why this commissioned forces and govt jobs parents rgetting points tht too 10..... and wht chnage is there in the system alumni is getg 25 points and sibling 20 points ...................springdales has crosse dthis limit alos an dis giving 35 points to alumni.................. means only alumni and siblings will suceed this time... i think by seeing ths lottery system shud be there.............
One more discrimination: Gita ratan jindal school is giving pts. for choosing the school transport. Directely implying that the parents ready to pay more will be given benefit.
