First list out, nervous wait for the 2nd begins for many | PTI

New Delhi, Feb 1 : As the first list of children selected for nursery admission was released by city schools today, it brought joy to the lucky parents whose tiny tots could make the cut and heart break to thousands of others.

Unable to make it in the first attempt, parents are now waiting for the second list which will be released later this month.

Asked about the nursery admission process, Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said not a single child would be left without getting admission.

“We will ensure that each and every child in the city gets admission in nursery class,” he said.

The first list shows that most of the schools preferred children with points in sibling or alumni category, a trend that reduced the chances of admission of kids in the general category.

However, experts and principals have advised parents not to get disheartened and wait for the second list.

“There is always a chance in the second list as many kids who are selected in multiple schools will create vacancies in some schools,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of popular parents forum ‘admissionsnursery.com’.

“If your ward got selected in a school which is not of your choice. Don’t waste time, get the admission done first and then wait for the second list. The basic rule of nursery admission is to block a seat,” he told PTI.

Ashok Pandey, Principal of Ahlcon International School in Mayur Vihar, concurred and said,” Parents should deposit the fees in the first school their child has been selected. If a school of their choice still has vacancy, they may switch to it later.” According to the rules by Directorate of Education, a school has to refund the fees within a month if one withdraws from it after deducting the registration fee and one month’s tuition fee.

The results of first list also showed that many schools have chosen draw of lots for selecting children even as they adopted a points system.

The second list will be out by February 28 and the whole admission process, which began with the selling of forms on January 2, has to be completed before March 31, as per the DoE guidelines.

Sakshi, can you please clarify about the process of selection in second and third list? As far as I know, all subsequent lists are prepared from the waiting lists which have already been declared by almost every school along with first list. And for precisely the reason that people would secure multiple seats in different schools, every school this time has created a wait list of another 50% of total nursery seats available in their school. To quote an example, Tagore International, EOK had 60 seats in General category (excluding alumni, EWS, staff etc), and they further declared 30 more in wait list. So, doesn't that mean that if our child's name is not there in the wait list too, there is no point in having further hopes with that school?

@ Amit Saxena: I totally agree with with you. I guess the chapter is closed if the name does not figure in the wait list.

Anybody Please have a second list of ITL PUBLIC SCHOOL, Dwarka which was supposed to come on 28/01/2012. Please !!!!!!!!

Can anybody please................. provide me with the 2nd List of ITL Public School, Dwarka.. Please.....

Is there any list for Draw as well ????

well... very disheartened today by the entire education system. The previous system of interviewing the child was better, atleast the parents were satisfied with result whatever it be. Now the LUCK of a 3 year old is being tested and many schools are blindly admitting the alumini and the siblings. If right to education is a right so is the right to admission to a good school. Many reknowned schools are asking for upfront money without cash and receipt for the admission. A sad day for many good prospective students....

You are absolutely right Vikram. I agree that it was far better to conduct interview & tests..atleast only those who were deserving were given the rightful opportunity. Now everything is based on luck & chance, there is no role of performance. If earlier the schools were asking for donations, how has that changed even now? If they have to ask, they will ask irrespective of the selection process. Every school..every damn school has been filled in the first list by Alumni & sibling category. Giving points to first born is just an eyewash. I mean just by giving 5-10 points, how can they exoect a new applicant to compete with alumni & sibling categories who are being awarded more than 30 points in all big schools...It is good that the government cares for EWS category but then why are they turning the general category into a new minority? Where will our children go?

It is matter of concern and I dont know why there should not be any specific solution about it . First born child has only 6 points and the alumin 26 so the sibling..how should that be compared ..how silly

According to me, points for first born were there in the admission process, only to push the points of the alumuni category of students to clear the cut off set in different schools. They were not meant for the general category, as there is no way, that points for first born could have let them clear the cut off in any of the schools.I totally agree, it was just an eye wash for applicants in general category.

can anybody update me about the st. cecilia public school in vikas puri. how is the school right now

Hi Sakshi,
