Are AC schools good for childern when it comes to their health in long run?

My daughter is 2.6 years old and she will go to regular school probably next year. I aways have this question in my mind which I have never seen anyone talking about. I at times find many good schools which attract me when I think about my daughter but one thing that confuses me is weather she should go to All AC school. Wont it affect her immunity, stamina etc.

Thanks everyone. I think I agree with Gurpreet... We really need to maintain balance. AC itself is no harm but excess of anything is. If the kids get to enjoy good weather its good. Also, there has to be physical activity involved which schools do take care of...

When we are providing all facilities to our children at home then y should not in schools? When our child need AC at home and in car and during sleep etc ,then why not during study? Why we are expecting all these things from a child, when we our self cant survive without AC in such a bad whether .Can u do work in office without AC, with so many employees around you?I think If your kid is getting good atmosphere, good education and should also involved in physical activity then we should also provide comfortable feel to our child so that he can enjoy in schools also.

I myself had this dilema for my daugher when we were considering her admission this year. I was also of the opinion that having a child in AC for 24 hours may actually reduce immunity and can have a deterimental impact on the child's health.

In an AC school, the child is very likely to suffer from a heat-stoke when going out to the ground.

Also, unlike adults, children are far more accomodative to adverse wheather conditions. They do not really mind.

Also, keep in mind that most colleges do not have AC !!!

I'd rather not spoil my child with exessive luxury early in life.

i think  some educationist should also  give his her take

For a basic education artificial cooling or heating process is not required. So lack of air conditioning in a school is not a big deal and a required basic facility too. Schools if constructed in a spacious location with shady trees and cross ventilated architecture with just a ceiling fan is enough. Breathing fresh air and sitting in well lighted classroom is always healthy. But nowadays schools project air conditioned classrooms and buses as a major feature during admission process. During extreme weather conditions they are required for a comfort learning to kids and comfort teaching to teachers too. Kids find difficult to balance with the temperature difference after leaving school or during power cut which occurs frequently in summers. This will effect immunity power of kids. It would be better if schools teach kids learning to be adaptable to any situations in real life than cheating parents by collecting hefty fees in name of AC which runs for few hours and for a maximum 2 or 3 months.

I will opt for a non AC school always since kids should be adaptable to all situations.

Dr. K K Kapur a Senior Consultant in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi  gives a few cons of using AC which is listed below.

They can aggravate cardiovascular diseases and respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis, wheezing, and shortness of breath if condensation occurs on the cooling coils and in the drain pan. Such condensation promotes microorganism and mould growth, which may spread throughout the building by the central air conditioning ventilation system.
Central air units do not allow fresh air to enter the building, and so do not help reduce the indoor pollutants’ concentration.
Such air conditioning has also been found to be responsible for the spread of Legionnaires’ disease – a type of pneumonia – at a Tennessee, US hospital during the year 1980.

Studies have found people working in office buildings with central air conditioning to exhibit symptoms such as skin irritations, headache, fatigue, mucous membrane irritation, breathing difficulties among others. However, when they leave the building, their symptoms disappear.

I feel too much exposure to Ac will surely effect our nervous system too.

.

There was this tripping recently.  There are cases of natural calamities.  In all such cases, power cuts are for days.  Kids always in the AC environment may not cope in  dire situations.  These does not augur well for AC schools.  Schools canvassing their AC facilities are smart enough and knows that majority of parents are too pampering and may shell out any amount for their kids comfort without thinking of their future.

i agree with Latha here. my child is in a AC school and he catches cold quite frequently. in summer vacations he was absolutely fine. we dont have AC at home. we remain rather fine without AC. we did not choose school because of AC, it is just happens to be there in school.
