State Advisory Board calls for cap on upper age limit
With the State Advisory Board on Wednesday fixing the upper age limit for nursery admission, many parents have found themselves in a fix.
The board has decided that “for pre-school, the child should not be more than 3 years, 11 months and 30 days, as on March 30 of the start of academic year in which the admission is sought”.
Many parents who could not get their wards admitted to the school of their choice last year and were hoping to do so this time, will now not be able to do that.
“Last year, my child was just three years and a few days old. Since there was no upper age limit, we felt that there was no harm in letting him continue for another year at the play school,” Paras Chhabra, a parent, said.
Owing to this recent decision, however, Chhabra’s child would be eligible for admission only in kindergarten, which, according to him, is “hundred times tougher than nursery”.
Echoing the sentiments of many other parents, Chhabra said the decision regarding the fixing of the upper age limit was taken “abruptly” and it should not be applied to nursery admission in the coming academic session.
“There are just 10 days left for the registration process for nursery admission to begin and they are coming out with new guidelines. This should be made from the next academic session and not this year,” he said.
Sumit Vohra, the founder of the blog admissionsnursery.com, said parents should not panic as no notification has been issued till now. “There has been no notification so far. It is just a government advisory.”
“We wanted a gap of two years between the minimum and the maximum age limit for nursery admission. Where will those parents who were not able to get there children admitted in a decent school last year go?”
Principal of Ahlcon Public School, Mayur Vihar, Ashok Pandey, said, “With all sympathies to parents who will be affected, some form of a cap needs to be fixed. Those who found it difficult to get seats last year will face the same problem this year too as the criteria for admission has not changed.”

Hi Saunee,
Read your concern, your child would be eligible for nursery admission (2013-2014) as your child will turn 4 on 15th april,2009 and as per the upper age limit cutoff the child should not be more than 3 yrs 11 months and 30 days as on March 30th. So your child will be under 4 yrs of age as per this cutoff.
So, no need to worry, you surely can apply for nursery admission for your ward.
Thanks!
Thanks to Mr.Vohra for taking the issues faced by the parents immediately to media's attention even during media's focus on elections and criminal case reported in city. And very valid points raised in Navbharat times. Even though we need uniformity in admission process no child can be denied admission as per RTE Act.

@ Paras, go directly on doe website. confirm are you getting this message?
Its Intermittent problem . some time link comes.
Sakshi..problem is the school name..i would need to select a school name for it to accept my request..i will enter any name, as suggested by Lathaa ji..meanwhile i have sent a mail to the minister in the link given on DOE website..dont know how effective it would be
Yes Paras but i was checking from morning , the link used to disappear from DOE site ( THAT Y I TOOK SNAP SHOT) completely , when it comes back .then its fine
BUT WHAT 1-2 COMPLAINTS WILL DO .COMPLAINT TO MINISTER WON'T HELP SHE GETS THOUSANDS OF THEM DELHI FROM DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS :(
Already when issuing guidelines DOE director hinted that they might send a separate circular regarding Upper Age Limit. I checked the DOE complaint status and found only 3 or 4 complaints registered so far. If at least 20-30 complaint on single days don't go , then it might get notified after sometime as no opposition .Then who can stop them. Mr Vohra has done his best, now its parents turn in case you want 2 years upper cut off.
Lathaji, if parents don't come forward now, then every thing will go down the drain. YOU ARE SPOT ON.
UPLOADED THE COMPLAINT..I HOPE MANY MORE PARENTS COME FORWARD..
Hi everyone here seen this notification and want to clarify that There is no need to be panic for parents of children who is 4+ as there is better opportunity for them to get a seat in so called big schools. please read clause 8 of guideline which insists the enrollment equal to the highest enrollment in last three years for not only nursery but for KG and class I also in such school which starts from nursery. Present decision by advisory board is only an advice nothing more then that. This advise can be notified but easily will collapse during judicial test of notification on various legal ground. Until it is not notified any use of this advice by the name of decision is not permissible under law.
