No nursery admissions in private Delhi schools till final verdict, orders court

Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.

The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.

The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

ready to take all these efforts again...if our little angels can overcome these discriminations...

will not have any words to appreciate...if High Court makes it work this time....

I fail to understand the time high court has. They are not even willing to leave something pertaining to small toddlers

This is a great move. If the draconian points system is abolished to give way for something more democratic then such a move is thoroughly welcome.

For every child who has got admission this year, there are 50 or 100 who haven't got admission. What happens those kids?

Admissions should purely be lottery based. Kids from within 5 km should get admission on priority. If there are 100 seats in a school, 50 should be reserved for kids within 5 kilometers. The remaining 50 should be open for kids from 5 km and beyond.

Documents verification should be made very stringent. Cheating and forgery of documents should have serious consequences.

Last but not the least, fees should be refunded to the parents who have already paid the fee.

@Shiv: For every child who gets admission into a school .. there will always be 100 more children who couldn't make it to the school - irrespective of how the choice is made! Again, when you lay down conditions like 50% for within 5 Kms and remaining for beyond 5 Kms .. there will be a contravention where Distance criteria is not being applied properly. There is really no magic bullet. The only way to provide some modicum of fairness is to break up available seats under different headings and go by Distance criteria within the heading. Eg: Of 100 seats - 25% reservation for EWS, 20% Management, 5% staff. 20% sibling, 15% Alumni, 15% General candidates. Within each sub-heading, clear 50% demarcation for boys and girls to maintain gender parity. Seats to be provided based on distance from school 0-1 Km, 1-3 Kms and 3-5 Kms. Draw within distance! This will ensure all sections get a chance at admissions!

Dear Parents

This is a case which was filed in Dec 2010 and not now. We all know the hurdles we are facing in admission process due to discriminatory admission criteria which is against RTE Act. We have to find a solution one day. I ensure an amicable solution would be reached. Nothing to panic and support for a transparent admission process to happen in coming years.
