Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.
The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.
The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

the sibling points criteria is unfair. And it must go. You are just worried about your convenience. Parents of first born children are worried about getting into a school.
ITS TIME 4 schools to start evening shifts also...... better utilization of resources i must say :)
I don't understand why RTE implies pressure on those who can afford?! Would RTF (Right to Food) mean snatching others bread?! Why is this policy being applied on private schools? Its govt responsibility to provide education to all and for that they should come up with more govt schools. If its question of quality, then govt schools need to be upgraded to match or surpass pvt school education. Why are pvt schools being pulled down?! For politicians stupidity ultimately the parents and kids have to suffer!
Pvt schools need to be provided guidelines to stop exorbitant exploitation but not pulled down in the name of RTE! They should be given freedom to try out different ways to improve quality of education. For govt (political) policies or directives, govt schools are there!
@Vijay: Unfortunately, we're the ones who've given politicians the power to act as they please. We as parents have a collective responsibility. This madness is not new - it has been going on for the past 5 years now. How many of the current parents bothered to raise a voice over the past 5 years .. until now that they're directly affected? The other way around, how many of the parents from past years, who've gone through this grind have done anything about it? We're least bothered unless something affects us directly! Its a collective failure .. kudos to people like Sumit and Lathaa who're actually doing something about it!
Hmmm... the politicians have been very successful at dividing us when they, as corrupt, stand united! We are not able to even build consensus on issues leave alone taking it forward!
Lets see how many more years of such drama! How hard is it to come up with proper education system in the name of RTE!
It ok if the process restarts, atleast it will help kids to get admissions in their neighbourhood schools. If the new system is really good, atleast it should stop parents from filling forms for 40-50 schools!
To all of us who think that the court order will be an answer to our prayers... we may be in for a rude shock. Lets say the court scraps the DoE quidelines, then what.. it will not propose anything new, it will leave it up to DoE to come up with new ones. Surely they will may be in a months time... but there will not be a clear road map on how it will be implemented, there will be loopholes which could be used by a few and so on.
Even if the new process starts on time, a wild draw of lots would be like Russian Roulette, you may be able to get any admission in any arbit school in a 10km radius (may be some will get through 10 and some none!). People will have to apply all and every school for best chances and maybe some choices, and some may forcefully have to send their wards to schools with exorbitant fees, as their luck threw them there.
Others who could and would want to afford such fees would be stuck in not so fancy schools with affordable fees. This will start a new system ... the barter system will takeover, schools will partner with middlemen to facilitate agreeing parents to exchange seats.... of course for a sum of money and all this will obviously happen after the schools have opened. So basically the stress will extend in to months and may be for a year when almost all parents will throw themselves to the mercy of schools to secure fresh admission in prep for which norms do not exist. Basically a lot of us will find ourselves amongst a new pack of wolves, and with extended period of stress and anxiety ...ENJOY!!
+1
