No nursery admissions in private Delhi schools till final verdict, orders court

Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.

The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.

The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

No I am saying this because I am weighing my options after the imminent change occurs... and that scares me.. as we are getting in to uncharted territory where not every contingency is planned for and not every loop has been closed. All I am saying is I have my doubts if things will be that rosy as it appears.... tell me if any of my doubts above are unjustified and if proposed systems would address them.

Who said things are going to be rosy after the court judgement. Do you think quashing the points system would guarantee a seat for every child in a good school? No. But what it would guarantee is Equal Opportunity. Every child would have an equal opportunity to apply to any school, especially in the neighbourhood.

I live in a neighbourhood and I cannot find a seat for my child in that school for the simple reason because people with alumni, siblings, and transferable job points get through on priority. A first born male child living 100 m from the school doesn't have an equal opportunity to get into the school.

We want Equal Opportunity. That's all. Not guarantee. Every child irrespective of gender, sibling status, single parent status, awardee parent status, parent with transferable job status should have an equal opportunity to apply to a school.

And neighbourhood should be the only criteria. Because it affects the child physically.

Whats the final verdict?

I think the hearing will continue tomorow

yes.....it will continue tmrw. Today the matter went for more than 1 hour.

For all those who want the existing system to be scrapped, what guarantee is there that the new system will be any better?

What is the guarantee that existing system will improve?

i think the delays in verdicts will make schools do whatever they want nd till date the BIG NEWS is that "ONLY SIBLING CASES WILL BE HEARD" others go in dark.............

Just crossing our fingers... HC verdict will stop the discriminatory point system...

If Sibling criteria is so important... gets so much weightage... then where the first born child will go... why their career to be spoiled...

All the seats of good schools are occupied by the sibling category or the alumni... is there any option left at all for these first born innocents....

More Importance should be given to distance because 3-4 yr children are too small to travel so much
