No nursery order yet, parents on tenterhooks

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

New Delhi: The first list of candidates selected for nursery are out in most schools but these are tentative at best. With the possibility of the Delhi high court changing the admission system altogether – perhaps this year itself – parents are not celebrating yet.
“If the high court quashes the existing points system,” says Mahesh Kumar, who has already completed the admission process for his kid at a Safdarjung Enclave school, “I want to know what will happen next. Will the school give a complete refund? Because, it is not my fault and I am not withdrawing my child from the school of my own accord.” (our featured Member Mr K Suresh Kumar)
“My kid got into four schools,” says Manish Singh, “ and I’ve already admitted him into one. But it was written at the bottom of the list that it is a tentative one.” He is hoping that the high court decision won’t change things for him.
“Nothing will change because there’s no monitoring,” says Suresh Jain whose child has not made it to any school. “If the system is scrapped, there’ll be last-minute chaos and schools will do what they want.” There are parents who haven’t managed to secure seats anywhere despite having good schools within “a few metres” of their homes. “My son hasn’t got through any school,” she said listing out a few prominent names with distances from her house in Vasant Vihar. “I
wish the entire admission process is scrapped,” wrote a frustrated parent on admissionsnursery.com.
That the points system has some serious drawbacks is evident from the fact that G D Goenka, Vasant Kunj, will have practically an all-girls

class if all the kids in the first list take admission. Of the 75 children it has selected in the first list, only four are boys. The school had awarded 10 points for a girl child and this was independent of points allotted to a first child. In many schools, points were given for first or girl child. In another school, the vast majority of students belong to linguistic and cultural minorities. “It is most difficult for the regular middle class parents who don’t have enough money to pay for management seats,” says Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com, “but I also find that parents have finally accepted the neighbourhood issue and have applied and admitted kids to schools closer home.”

However, several schools, fearing a repeat of the admission process, have chosen to withhold results. Ahlcon International School in Mayur Vihar has withheld the first list and will inform parents of developments on February 19; Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, too are yet to come out with their lists. Despite the directorate of education asking schools to display the breakup of points earned by each candidate, several schools haven’t complied.

Since you are continuing to attribute motives and making unsubstaintiated allegations, I demand that you immediately tender an apology.

Further, if you are saying that "The Times of India" stated that they cannot write your real name in spite of your willing to disclose, then if true, is a very serious matter.

"I demand that you immediately tender an apology"

WHO ARE U TO ASK ?

i am not stysfy the point system of school beacause what is alumani, transfrable job, girl child, first child are you creat a family school or you think that education is only for first child& girl child &not for boys&second child what is maater that the parents job is trans fareble. ihave a first girl child but  ithink that education is compulsory for all child.recently i read the news that the GOVT says RTE not apply in nurserry admission so ask them why SC-ST,OBC,EWS QUATA appling there. if they say RTE not apply there then QUATA SYSTEM not aplly also.if govt says QUATA SYSTEM is aplly for then RTE is aplly there or  govt says RTE apply after 6yrs&1st class then how schools says nurseery addmision is entry level. i think draw of lots is the only way to get admission on distance bases randomly& the whole system is centerlized &common under DOE,PARENTS&SCHOOLS.

I agree most of the people belong to EMS category due to the flawed point system adopted by different schools. Only siblings and Alumni are benefitted a lot in getting  general category seats this time and EMS termed by Mr.Vohra are the worst hit.

My Neighbor walks out triumphed after buying a seat in my school and I being an alumni of Modern School Humayun Road do not make it to the list. In fact we do not make it to any list.
hi all,
i stay in pitampura , sandesh vihar.i applied to 20 schools..cud get thru only 1.......becoz of silly sibling criteria one cannt get first child admittd to a decent school..if u get distance points u fall short ...cud nt get more than 50 points ...seriously this point system is not working.
Sakshi but seriously do u think its gonna make any difference. We have a lot of hope that high court will do justice to the admission cause last year also they said now its too late we will formulate things from next year

We were called by Ryan International School for verification of documents on Friday. And on reaching there, we were shocked to see how shamelessly the seats are being sold. We were told very clearly that if we pay 60K in cash right away our child's name will appear in the first list that will be posted at 4PM. When we asked the person asking for the money what was the criteria that was being used, he had no clear answer. As we didn't pay, our child's name was not in the list. And, in the evening we met a few parents who scored in sibling criteria and they told us that even they paid 55k to get their name in the list. I don't see how point system has regularized admissions. It has only given the parents tough time of running around to fill admission forms, wait for lists, get stressed and finally pay for the seat. If we have to buy the seat in the end then why do all the drama of buying forms, getting proofs attested and then verifying them. Let's just do an open house on the seats and close the same.
