Delhiites are mostly anxious about the nursery admissions of their children despite the changes in the guidelines made by lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung. The admission process will begin on January 15.

The lieutenant-governor last week made two important changes in the guidelines for nursery admissions — management quota was abolished and it was decided to allot 70 points to children under the neighbourhood criteria, covering a radius of 6 km from the school.
According to a survey conducted by admissionsnursery.com, 63 per cent of some 1,700 parents were anxious about their children’s admissions. They felt that their children had no chance of getting admission even if they got extra points under sibling parameters.
Some 40.8 per cent of the parents viewed the new admission guidelines positively. However, 28 per cent of the participants said the neighbourhood criteria should have been 10 km, and not 6 km, to get 70 points.
Delhi parents want the neighbourhood criteria to increase the distance between school and residence of potential students to be 10 km instead of six km. They also want extra points for safe transport for students with siblings. Safe transport is an undertaking given by the parents to that school that they will take responsibility of dropping and picking up their children.
“Maximum parents were happy with the new point points system, but surprisingly more than 25 per cent of the parents in the survey felt that 10 km should have been the radius instead of 6 km for the neighbourhood criteria. So that most of them would be able to apply in maximum number of schools around them,” the founder of the admissionsnursery.com, Sumit Vohra, said.
Some 28 per cent parents are displeased the manner in which maximum weightage was given to the neighbourhood criteria with a fixed radius of 6 km.
As per the survey, 13.4 per cent of the participants said that the distance criteria should have been staggered — like 70 points to children residing within 0-3 km radius and 50 points to those falling between 3-6 km. This time, equal points would be awarded to all the children seeking admission within the 6 km radius.
Some 40.8 per cent parents replied in affirmative when asked whether they were happy with new admission points system for year 2014-15. “Yes, I have some chances of getting admissions in good schools,” but, 10 per cent said, “No, as I don’t have any neighbourhood points.”
Mr Vohra added that every year reputed schools in Delhi get around four lakh applications for one lakh seats. However, this year with the 6 km as fixed radius for 70 points, there are chances of less applications.

I agree completely that the distance criteria should be 10 km instead of 6km.can somebody tell me how distance is calculated?

Aerial or by road in the guidelines.

Awaited .

Iam really disappointed by the new nursery admission criteria as in North Delhi there are no good school within 6kms. Getting admission in Oxford or harvard is much easier than nursery admission
n in Delhi. They have completely ruined the entire admission process

The neighbour hood points would have been ideal if all across the city there were good quality schools. By this criteria people staying in posh areas can get their wards admitted to good schools which are generally located in those areas like, RK Puram, Vasant Kunj, Chanakyapuri etc. So once your child doesnt get admission in any of these schools you are left with second grade schools for ever till 12th. Giving highest number to neighbourhood criteria is highly skewed. The earlier criteria wherein the points were distributed equally was better off.

Many parents are not happy with 6km rule we want 10 km radius rule- said Sumit Vohra founder AdmissionsNursery.com~First Post- Dec 23  2013

According to Sumit Vohra, who runs the portal admissionnursery.com, parents are pleased with the overall guidelines. He tells us, “According to the earlier guidelines, schools would have random point systems, some would give marks based on whether you drank alcohol, ate non-vegetarian food or not. Now with this system no school can set up random rules for admission. Also with the removal of the management quota, there will be 20 percent more seats available for general students. Schools can’t just demand donations anymore now.” But he too concedes that the six-kilometre rule is likely to leave many unhappy and says, “Sure the system could have been better. Parents in far-flung areas are definitely not happy with this six-km rule. Perhaps a 10-km rule would have been better but even then problems would have existed.” Vohra feels that guidelines also uphold the spirit of the RTE act and says, “They are at par with RTE. Before this the schools were discriminating against parents, students. Now with a uniform system they can’t do the same.”

I am also not happy with the new guidelines. I am getting 0 points out of 100 in almost all good schools. I don't know what should be done. I have a first born boy child with no distance points, sibling points and alumini points.
But its very good for people who are living on rent they can shift to nearer the school, because they have to leave on rent only, in Delhi fifty percent people out of Delhi its good for them they can get a chance for their child admission in top school, i am really happy and i hope to get a chance for my children
