Schools move SC
over nursery admissions

By Mail Today Bureau in New Delhi

A DAY after their plea was dismissed by the High Court, unaided private schools on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on nursery admissions guidelines issued by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.

However, nursery admissions began on Tuesday as per the notification of Directorate of Education, even as some parents said they have been caught unawares.

“ We have filed a petition today ( Tuesday) in the Supreme Court, and tomorrow our lawyer will mention the case in the court, seeking an urgent hearing,” said S. K. Bhattacharya, Chairman, Action Committee of Unaided Recognised Private Schools.

Bhattacharya added that the case is expected to come for hearing on Friday.

The December 18 guidelines issued by LG Jung had made some sweeping changes to the previous guidelines that were operational for the last seven years. The new guidelines have increased weightage to ‘ neighbourhood’ criterion and have scrapped the 20 per cent ‘ management quota.’ Meanwhile, confusion prevailed among parents and schools on the first day of nursery admissions, as many among them were unaware that admissions process has begun on Tuesday.

“ I was expecting some relief will be given to parents by the HC. I was expecting admissions will start in few days and I have not even collected all the documents.

It is only now that I came to school to take the form,” said Rohit Chabra, who reached Salwan Public School in Rajinder Nagar around 3pm.

While few parents said they were having difficulty in filling the online admissions forms, some school authorities said they were ready to help. “ We have started our admission process from today as we have to follow the rules.

There was a lot of confusion as the notification from Directorate of Education came late and we had to do a lot of preparations. Any parent who finds it difficult to fill the online forms can come to school for assistance,” said Rekha Krishnan, principal, Vasant Valley School.

Despite cold weather and rain, parents queued up to collect forms, even though some of them knew that their wards do not fulfil the ‘ neighbourhood’ criterion of Jung’s guidelines. “ I have no option but to try my luck. There are no good schools near my residence.

So, I am trying at all the schools even if they are beyond 8 kilometres. The schools are also helpless as they have no authority to consider my case,” said Shalini who lives in Chattarpur.

At many schools, parents had to return empty handed as forms were not being given over the counter and were only available online. Schools that are also selling forms over the counter include DAV Public School; Saint Giri; Glory Public School; Tagore International, East of Kailash; Ryan International, Vasant Kunj; Ahlcon Public School and ASN School in Mayur Vihar.

The last date for submission of applications to schools is February 5.

Admissions will close on March 31, according to a Directorate of Education notification. The date for the first list of selected candidates is February 28.

Actually management quota has been portrait as evil which is not d fact.. if preference is given to staff who's working for d school then why not management who's also working hard to raise the standards of school... and area parameters should be changed coz child living next door to school is securing 70 points and child 8km away is also securing 70 point's... and bcoz of so many children securing 70 points lottery will decide the fate of the child and there are strong chances that the fate of child living next door will go into drains... I think priority should be given to children who are more closer to schools... n if not then I think there should not be any point system let d lottery decide let god decide...
I completely agree with your thought process. If lottery is the only deciding factor then neighborhood criteria should have slabs so that areas are not missed by just half a kilometre.

POINTS SYSTEM FOR DISTANCE SHOULD BE GRADED ONE DEPENDING ON THE DISTANCE OF RESIDENCE FROM SCHOOL - THE CHILD LIVING  MORE CLOSER TO SCHOOL SHOULD GET MORE POINTS .IT CAN BE GRADED IN TO  2KM , 4KM  , 6KM AND 8KM BRACKETS AND SO ON . MANAGEMENT QUOTA SHOULD NOT BE ABOLISHED BUT MAY BE REDUCED TO  5%.  PRACTICALLY IF YOU SEE THAT AFTER EXCLUDING ALUMINI , SIBLING AND STAFF CATEGORY  THERE WILL BE LOTTERY FOR ALL OTHERS OR YOU CAN SAY LUCK OR UNCERTAINITY

Schools are going to supreme court because management quota is abolished....this is some kind of licence to pick pocketing and high court  denied for this...it seems that  Delhi schools are selling education and nothing else...

I believe management quota should not be the deciding factor. Why is everyone talking against management quota and not on the Ews quota. If 25 percent on that is fine then why not management quota
I agree with Supriya Malik. This 70 points blanket for everyone from 1 to 8 kms will only lead to enormous numbers of applications and the final decision will become purely statistical. Good Luck and pray to god! There has got to be a little more freedom of choice on both sides - one cannot ever get a child into a school of choice if the selection is totally lottery based.
I completely agree with u.. Supriya
Agree.....

What is the agreeing goin on now? I just wish there is no change by SC, and there is a tight slap on schools face...

What if the school is not within 8 km of radius.. What will be the criteria for that.

can anyone plz me NGFS saket i have tried to do online registratiion and web said the link is send to ur email to activate ur account and we havent received any such mail. tried to contact the school but no body replied. now what??????????

You are correct Mr. Atul why no one is talking about 25% ews.. and 5% girl quota... I don't understand y QUOTA?? I understand government wants to promote education for EWS give them some points y quota... in fact these quotas are exploited b.coz most of these seats go empty..
