NAVBHARAT TIMES

The last day of submitting applications for nursery admissions on Wednesday saw posh schools of Delhi receiving a massive number of applications.

Springdales School’s Pusa Road branch with just 102 seats and its Kirti Nagar branch with 68 seats received some 7,000 applications, so did DPS RK Puram, which has two junior schools, founder of admissionsnursery.com Sumit Vohra said.

In a survey by the website, localities with more schools had more applicants as parents scrambled to stick to the 8-km radius rule. Neighbourhoods with more schools such as Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj and Pitampura saw parents applying to 15-20 schools. The schools in these areas received double the number of applications.
But with no clear guidelines on the upper age limit, parents kept guessing.

Under the new guidelines, admissions to nursery classes will be given on the basis of four criteria – neighbourhood up to 8 km radius, sibling studying in the school, parent alumni and inter-state transfer cases.

The maximum weightage with 70 points out of 100 in open category seats is for children who live within 8 km radius of the school. Applicants who have sibling studying in the same school will get 20 points and five points will be added by default in the application of girls and children of school alumni.

In DPS East of Kailash, out of a total 3,905 registrations, only 79 students have more than 75 points. “These students are likely to get direct admission,” Vohra said.Out of 308 students having 75 points, a whooping 231 students have five points for inter-state transfer.

The fate of the remaining applicants will be decided by draw of lots. With only 117 seats in DPS East of Kailash, the probability of getting admission works out to one in every eight applicants for students with 75 points. In DPS Vasant Vihar with slightly less applicants, the probability of students with 75 points is one in every four.

Schools will declare the first list of selected candidates on February 28 and the second list is expected on March 15. The admission process will end on March 31.

Why just DPS? Isn't this the case with all leading schools? People with just 70 points have almost zero chance in all the major schools...New guidelines don't seem to work in a state like Delhi...

Only in DPS because it is a well established old school which has maximum no. of Alumni and sibling cases.

I agree its a mockery of parents. The fake and offcourse some few authentic transfer cases with get seats in all the good schools and parents like us with 70 points will struggle with admissions. I want to ask how someone can call these ridiculous guidelines fair and helpful for parents. How do i stand a fair chance for admission to a good school.

well so far its been parents vs schools.

maybe it should be parents and schools together vs arbitrary guidelines!!!

For the current session, it is all over. Bodies should fight right now for next session.  Be it EWS or General category, we emphasize on neighbourhood schooling and immediately we do otherwise granting 70 pts for 1-8 kms.

See results : for 156 open seats at DPS Mathura Road, more than 4000 applied.

for 60 EWS seats more than 1100 applied.

(in both the cases, child admission is on luck). Time to change our philosophy towards life has come.

I just got a call from st Lawrence, geeta colony to visit the school today or tomorrow regarding my kid's admission. When I enquire why they are calling as name of selected kids have to be displayed on 28.02.2014, they offered no response and just told that visit once... Further they are calling from a mobile no which becomes out of service after call is over...

May like take take some necessary actions in this regards....

transfer points have no logic whatsoever.

if anyone has any argument in favour of transfer points please present it. i really want to know!!

why is it that someone who has moved to delhi in the last one year (arbitrary figure) has a higher right to education that someone who has been here for longer.

and why is it that some schools can have reservation for government employees, public services etc, and other schools cannot give weightage to alumni if thats what they consider important.

autonomy for schools is important as a mark of respect and a constitutional right of any private enterprise. all over the world, schools/ colleges set criteria.

here the entire parent body seemed so overjoyed when these whimsical guidelines were published, and is now realising that this is as bad as anything else.

Pooja Narayan, I was the first person to oppose these guidelines on this forum and got criticism for that. Transfer and alumni cases should not be considered at all. This is unjust to others. These days fraudism is at high peak, things can be manipulated.

Secondly I support school autonomy and received bundles of criticism for favoring school lobby. You are the only person supporting school autonomy. You can see comments on this forum for the same. No one supports. Anyway I am not praising you and neither wants it from you. Initially everyone enjoyed these guidelines, and now everyone is crying.

When DPS R.K.Puram upload the List for Lottery of Girl Child Scheduled on 7th Feb??

List will be uploaded on 28.02.2014 as directed by DoE... But draw may be conducted anytime after closure of submission date which has already been crossed...

its is still not clear only interstate transferable job or only for those actually got transferred in last one year ?

According to DOE guidelines points are allotted to interstate transfer in period of 1st Jan 2013 to 5th Feb 2014 and not for transferable job for sure.
