NAVBHARAT TIMES

The last day of submitting applications for nursery admissions on Wednesday saw posh schools of Delhi receiving a massive number of applications.

Springdales School’s Pusa Road branch with just 102 seats and its Kirti Nagar branch with 68 seats received some 7,000 applications, so did DPS RK Puram, which has two junior schools, founder of admissionsnursery.com Sumit Vohra said.

In a survey by the website, localities with more schools had more applicants as parents scrambled to stick to the 8-km radius rule. Neighbourhoods with more schools such as Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj and Pitampura saw parents applying to 15-20 schools. The schools in these areas received double the number of applications.
But with no clear guidelines on the upper age limit, parents kept guessing.

Under the new guidelines, admissions to nursery classes will be given on the basis of four criteria – neighbourhood up to 8 km radius, sibling studying in the school, parent alumni and inter-state transfer cases.

The maximum weightage with 70 points out of 100 in open category seats is for children who live within 8 km radius of the school. Applicants who have sibling studying in the same school will get 20 points and five points will be added by default in the application of girls and children of school alumni.

In DPS East of Kailash, out of a total 3,905 registrations, only 79 students have more than 75 points. “These students are likely to get direct admission,” Vohra said.Out of 308 students having 75 points, a whooping 231 students have five points for inter-state transfer.

The fate of the remaining applicants will be decided by draw of lots. With only 117 seats in DPS East of Kailash, the probability of getting admission works out to one in every eight applicants for students with 75 points. In DPS Vasant Vihar with slightly less applicants, the probability of students with 75 points is one in every four.

Schools will declare the first list of selected candidates on February 28 and the second list is expected on March 15. The admission process will end on March 31.

As of now, it is not possible to categorize the distance slab, i feel parents like me who lives within a Km of school should take rest till display of second list........ :( Waiting for some miracle to happen......

It's all stupidity, what was the logic of transfer case. Max they could have set aside few seats like what other states do.

Vinod, I m totally agree with you... for transfer case, there should have been some seats allocated for them.. with point being awarded to them.. they are 5 point ahead in each n every school where they have applied, while even sibling and alumni points are applicable in only one school, ... why such benefit was given for transfer cases.... (it only means that..guidelines were issued in a hurry)

Agree with Gurmeet

DEAR ALL

Its analysis .NOTHING CAN BE DONE NOW.

yes would certainly want staggered point system

The transfer case point system has eaten into the chances of almost all kids with 70 points for most schools. Please verify their authenticity .I am more than sure that 90 percent would be fake.

For me also, its so much easy to get a certificate made from my employer in Mumbai .What's the big deal? But following the wrong path for my daughters admission in the beginning itself-----is not my cup of tea..Some more genuine proofs should be asked for.

Not only 70 points  Meetu... even the ones with 75 points. I really do not understand the funda of allowing transfer cases from 01 jan 2013 to 5th feb 2014. This means if the parent had an elder sibling, then they willl use this twice. second one has sure shot chances and otherwise, if the transfer took place even 6 months back, how would that case be different from others who come in the 70 points. Useless !!

Exactly, the point to be pondered over should be that why to give advantage to those have transferred in case of Nursery admissions.. The benefit should be given in case a parent has got a transfer in an ongoing session.. Rather some reservation can be done.. Anyways a transferred parent is able to get a address proof (70 points) and inter state transfer points(5).. Why difference between a permanent resident and those who have got transfers..On one hand, delhi govt recently said that they will provide reservation for students in DU colleges.. Why not for Delhi's permanent residents living since a long time...We have been paying taxes.. Why shouldn't we get benefit..

How about draw? How will it be conducted? Does a parent need to attend the draw? This is not possible if parent needs to attend the draw, draw is happening on date and time decided by school, working parents cannot meet the schedule, specially when more than 15 forms have been submitted!!

Hi Gaurav
Not mandatory to attend the draw.

Dear Parents
We have been communicated after Mr Sumit Vohra's efforts, that irrespective of parents presence the chits for all eligible candidates will be put for Draw of lots.
(As earlier also school was putting all the chits in absence of parents in previous years but for parents satisfaction the message for the same would be posted on the school website soon )
We will make it sure every school does that after DPS R K Puram setting an example.
