Schools holding ‘interactions’, allege parents

NEW DELHI: The application phase of nursery admissions may be over, but the scrutiny isn’t.

Many parents have alleged that some schools are planning to hold ‘interactions’ with the children or their parents before declaring the first admission list on February 28.

“I have been called for ‘verification of documents along with the child’ at a prominent school in west Delhi. I understand the part about the verification but why do I need to take my child along?” said a parent who did not wish to be named.

None of the parents wanted to be named as they were worried about sabotaging their children’s chances of admission. Screening and interaction with children and their parents is strictly banned as per the nursery admission guidelines. Flouting rules, however, is not new.

Every year, parents file complaints against many schools for calling them for an interaction. “No matter how strict the regulations are, a few schools always flout the guidelines. This year even old established schools are calling kids for an interview. This seems to be the effect of the removal of management quota,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com, an online portal for parents. Education officials said they had not received any such complaints

Ya and 1 more thing schools are calling for verificatiins of papers before draws and becomes difficult taking leave from office all the time y cant they check the ones they are admitting rater than all saving their and our time .

Also i heard schools like richmond global are asking for 6 months fees and giving admissiins .

Dear Moderator, Regarding Inter state transfer case is it possible to write a letter to LG for seeking only 5 % quota for same. As we all know that guardian with 70 points are having very less chance to get the admissions in top schools and if only 5% quota can be kept for transfer cases, everyone will have fare chance to get admissions.

I second that request, since our chances are rather slim with the present scenario.

I agree. Did not understand this one especially why should there be any points for transfer especially at the nursery level. Why a person with transfer should have additional points over 70.

I supposed those who got transferred in between the session should be accommodated as per the set guideline instead of giving marks or set the quota them

All this in the name of nobleness. Many people are cunning and this kind of pathetic guideline should not be deviced. See the situation that even if the school is just next building to your home and still you may have to get admitted 8 km far from home and more scaringly even no chance of admission.

One of the schools in North Delhi is not considering the left out girls, who will be left out of the draw of lots in girls quota, under the General category's draw of lots.
eg.
Suppose the school has 100 seats.
There will be 5 seats reserved for girls and 65 seats for the general category.
Now suppose 200 girls and 200 boys applied for admission.
School will ask if the parents want the girls child under the girls quota or the general quota.
Now, when the 200 girls are there for the draw of lots for the 5 seats, then the remaining 195 girls will not be considered for the 65 sets under general quota.
If the schools go by this rule then there is no use of girls quota.

I have only a few points to share my understanding of this whole gamble of points system:

  1. Why a point system and percentage system after all? Will a parent staying in nearby locality deserves more and pay more than a parent staying at a distance? What is transportation for anyways?
  2. EWS has been identified already, Girl Child preference is also a mandate in the current scenario, understood, but why alumni, first child, distance from school, transfer cases? Where is equality in this bureaucratic system?
  3. Is there a back-up plan for the cases where a child would not get selected in any category, anywhere and because of all the rubbish categorization?
  4. Just walk-in, first come first serve, walk-out and you are sorted (this has been the case when I was a kid) but now the other way is walk-in, make a substantial donation, get admission for your kid and walk-out happy. Will the anti-corruption lines be of up and working and will Arvind Kejriwal take an action on cancelation of license of those schools?
  5. Who gives a hundred percent assurance of having your kid’s form, in the drop-box, when it comes to the “lucky” draw? Is DOE putting-up enough staff at schools to cross-check those slips before the actual date of the “lucky” draw?
  6. As a parent, I am sure, some of you must have received letters from a few schools with dates of draw of lots and your compulsory presence. Who can be physically present at more than one location? Again the DOE mandate failed to restrict certain institutes in following the guidelines.
  7. Modern, Hansraj, DPS, Columbus etc. have created marvels and with a reference quota of alumni ranging to thousands, where would a kid stand who holds 70 points as per our so called point system?

From running pillar to post and filing up forms, the excitement and happiness of having my kid’s admission in a “neighbourhood” school is no longer alive! Instead, it is a constant fear of what will happen during the fall season? Whom should a parent meet then for answers?

My idea - not sure if this would work:

One thing is that a schools can increase number of seats by 40% to 50% this year and then year-on-year, growth as it may seem form the school, however will help some kids who would be deprived of admissions – probably a mandate from our LG could be of relief for the parents

Request for your suggestions, ideas, solutions, thoughts. Perhaps it is just me under this pressure……..

Hello Mr Vinod,

Can u pl tell me which school is this...I have a daughter and have filled up forms for  several schools in North Delhi..thats why I am asking

Hi
If this is the case then girls quota will be advantageous to boys
Was this the intent behind this 5% quota for girls ?
Let these school display first list, if you see no girls in the list then take a copy of list and send it to Education Minister and request for cancellation of school

How many schools have actually been taken off from their licenses till date?

The person who was born and brought up here in Delhi and works here has less chance than someone coming from other state...all politics....
