Why draw of lots in nursery admission be not held afresh?: HC

The High today asked the city government to inform it why draw of lots in nursery admission be not held afresh for all seats under neighbourhood scheme instead of just for those seats which were vacated after inter-state transfer category was scrapped.

Justice Manmohan asked the counsel for the government to take instructions from the directorate of education and listed the matter for further hearing tomorrow.

The court was hearing a plea against city government's decision to do away with the system of allocating points to inter-state transfer cases of children seeking admission in nursery classes here.

Delhi government had on February 27 issued a notification scrapping the inter-state transfer category under which it used to give five points to children whose parents have been transferred to the national capital from another state.

The notification was issued by the government after it admitted in court that there was misuse of the inter-state category.

The petition challenging the February 27 notification as being "totally arbitrary and unjustified" has been filed by Major Saurabh Charan and some other parents who have sought quashing of the government's decision to do away with the inter-state transfer category.

The petition has also sought directions to the government "to confirm the list of successful candidates/applicants including the children of present petitioners published by the schools prior to the passing of the impugned notification/ order..."

In the alternative, they have sought that draw of lots be conducted afresh for all seats under neighbourhood category by cancelling the entire draw held prior to February 27 and not just of those children who had availed of the benefit of the inter-state transfer category.

Under the earlier system, out of the total 100 points, 70 were given if the child lives in the neighbourhood of the school, additional 20 were given if a sibling is studying there, five points more if either parent is an alumni and another five points if it is an inter-state transfer case.

Those having 90 or more points are directly admitted while the rest have to undergo the draw of lots for admission.

Can you please update the hearing today.

Babita

Awaited.we will update the moment it comes.

Totally favour complete redraw! whats unfair is UNFAIR!!

Lets respect each ones view. We all are different and can think different. Lets wait and see what decision makers have for us.....

Would you have found this to be unfair if your child was also selected earlier?

There are army public schools and airforce schools and also schools in cantonments which have defence quota and then there is EWS quota.

What about a middle class civilian who pays 20-30% salary as tax and has struggled to come and settle in Delhi to earn a living and contribute to economy for the last 10 years? to be told that your child doesn't qualify for anything? as you are not an alumni, not from EWS, not a minority, not a civil servant or from defence and worse still this is your first child. seriously its a joke!

There shouldnt be redraw fir selected 70 points ...we also got lucky in few seats which were earlier taken by siblinga ,alumni and transfer cases..
my son was shorlisted in just one school, out of 35 and that too there was always a fight between 1000 to 2000 applications fir 10 or 20 seats...tc cases without that 5 points now will face how we save been strugling for a draw and now wen we have confirmed seats they want a redraw...y were the petition files, earlier by these tc...that y we are shortlisted every where...now that they are sailing in the same boat like we earlier they have problems ...please stop this nonsense...doe mught have done some calculations thats y 70 pointers selected werent scrapped....please guys have a bigger propective...u dodnt have,a confirmed seat but u have a chance ti be,lucky...dont take our lucky seats from us

YES, THERE SHOULD NOT BE RE-DRAW.

PLZ STOP THIS.

I do not understand why the points of alumni are given. I understand that this is easy for parents to send their two kids in a school and it is also easy for school. So the sibling points are logical, but the logic that my parents/grand parents have been alumni of so and so school 25 year back does not make any sense to give priority. While the parents living in delhi from many years and trying to get admission for their first kid are no where as they dont have any extra point. There have been many cases in which prarents were unable to manage a seat for their first kid in any school last year and this year also. So, does that mean they would not get education and if this is true then how would their siblings get seats in comming years. What a shocking thought, that in a country in which education is considered under basic human rights, a child going to start his education is just based on luck. Are we not playing with the future of kids? who even dont know what they are ranked for and to whom we think are the future of country. Dear friends, I am very sorry if I hurt someones feeling...I hope and wish a good education for each child wheather it is from siblings, alumni, transfer or just neighbourhood category. Best of luck to all of us

alumni also mean that the family is living there fr many years and it means u need not relocate atleast for ur child admission...its as gud as a neighbourhood point.

DOES ALUMINI POINTS STAND?

Alumni points must be abolished. This is illegal and repugnant to the sense of justice. Now HC must order against alumni points. In leading schools all the seats
are being grabbed by siblings and alumni candidates. They've made these schools into their baap ki jagir.
