Classrooms empty but schools are paying teachers, maintaining infrastructure

Their children may not have started school yet but parents of tiny tots are having to worry about their school fee already.
SONU MEHTA/HT FILE PHOTO Schools in Delhi will soon close for the annual summer break in the second week of May. Children will be able to start classes only in July.

The children may start nursery classes in the coming week, or what seems more likely, after the summer vacations, but parents will have to pay the fee for the entire quarter.

And it is not the fault of the schools either. While children usually start school in the first week of April, the long-drawn litigation has meant that classrooms have remained empty so far. The schools, however, have not stopped paying their teachers or eliminated the infrastructure that comes along with running the classrooms.

After Monday’s deferral, the final decision on the nursery admission process is expected on Wednesday. It is only after that that schools will start the second draw of lots to fill up the vacant seats. While a few schools have started classes already, a large number of seats still remain vacant.

The second phase of the admission process is likely to start by the end of this week or early next week. Schools usually close for summer break in the second week of May. The children, therefore, are expected to start school only in July now.

“This is a very peculiar situation where we will have to pay the fee even when our children have not started school. My daughter is still in play school and if the school demands the entire fee, I will have to pay double,” said Amit Yadav, a resident of Rohini.

According to the directorate of education, they have not yet decided on a road map for the fee.

“We are focussing on getting the admission process started as of now. Even when we discuss the issue of fee, we have to recognize that schools are still paying the teachers and are managing the infrastructure. We will have to think about the issue after proper consultation,” said Padmini Singla, director, education.

I concur with Rk ..as a special case this year . Some sort of relief should be given to parents .

We understand that the school are paying their respective teachers and maintaining the infrastructure but parents should not be made victims.

I have deposited the fee along with the so-called amount requested by the school and my kid is still sitting at home.

I strongly feel that the school should atleast adjust the amount paid for the month of April in the fee of next quarter(Jul-Sep)

Madam DoE should refrain herself from making such pro-school statements, now schools will get a chance not to give any relaxation to the parents. also i think the parents who have already got a confirm seat and paid the fees, should thank god that in this chaotic scene at-least they have got a seat and should not worry much about the fees (if possible). But for those who are still to be selected, when their name comes in next draw, they should not be liable to pay whole quarter's fees when even the name of their kid was not selected in that quarter, meaning they should be made to pay fees starting only from july. at-least this much relaxation can be given to those aggrieved parents!

You got it bro... @dr. Samar shadab DOE plays in the hands of pvt school lobby....

@ mahesh jain bro... :) hahaha... I Am your sis!!
Yes Dr Samar

i concur with you.

Omg!!!!! Soory maam @samar hadab maam ..... for wrong name/gender recognition...

But you are right in you point i m with you....

The DOE also needs to understand this that in this whole delay our kids has lost Precious 1.5 months of studies which is crucial for their development. Also some parents has enrolled their kids in other playgroup schools to avoid their idle sitting and hence ended up paying double fees.

I strongly disagree with the DOE's opinion of parents paying 1st quarter fees.

thanx for agreeing sakshi mam and mahesh jain ji...
