GURGAON:
There is much money to be lost by parents in the nursery admission process. The fee refund system in many Gurgaon schools is drilling a hole in parents’ pockets.
Parents are made to forsake the heavy deposits, which can go up to ` 1 lakh, they make at the time of admission to top schools if admission is withdrawn before the commencement of session. Schools refund only 10 to 20 per cent of the amount deposited.
With each school declaring their list on different dates, parents get a small window of two to three days to deposit the fees otherwise the seat is forfeited.
The pressure is much less in Delhi, where the Directorate of Education has strict rules for fee refund. If admission is cancelled in a month, the fee is refunded after deducting one month tuition fee, registration fee and admission fee. However, the admission fee component in Gurgaon is on the higher side compared to Delhi. It goes up to ` 1 lakh.
“There is no uniform refund policy for Gurgaon schools and they are exploiting parents. The insecurity of the schools is evident as they hardly give a day or two to submit the fees. The non-refundable component of fees is high and parents are left at the mercy of the schools,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com
Parents pray that schools rework their refund policies, and they say a monitoring body for admissions is the need of the hour. “Due to declaration of results on different dates, parents are forced to pay the lumpsum which ranges between ` 1 lakh and ` 3 lakh. And the refund is between ` 10,000 and ` 50,000 which takes a toll on parents’ finances. We are forced to either pay the fees or take a big risk and wait for other school to declare their results,” said Gunjan Awasthi, a parent.
Surina Rajan, additional chief secretary of school education, Haryana, said that while the nursery admission does not come under her purview, parents can send their complaints related to this issue.
“The RTE ( R i g h t To Education) Act is applicable only for children above six years of age. However, parents are welcome to inform us about any such practices followed by private schools as the issue may be pertinent for higher classes as well,” added Rajan.

HI,
We fully allign with this thought and parents should definately move together.
Regards,
Parent.
It's an unfair trade practice followed by almost all schools by draining the wealth of parents during each admission process. Even though nursery admission does not come under school education necessary action has to be taken by the education directorate or else each parent should seek the help of consumer forum. A needful regulation in admission process with proper admission schedule and uniform refund policy has to be followed as Mr.Vohra is stressing for a long time.
This is a serious issue. Being in IT industry we are not sure of the location of the next project . Schools like DPS don't allow to take the Transfer within their Franchisee branches. In such case we have lot of confusion as schools take huge amount in form of admission fee ..
This is really a serious issue , forget about the money I'm facing problem in getting my son's original birth certificate (Taken by school ) ,actually due to different dates of registation & admission ,I blocked my son's admission in one of the school at faridabad (Modern DPS) ,but later on when we recvd call from SRM & DPS ,I choose SRM & now when i went to take back the documents back ,principal of the school behaved in an unpleasant way & threatened for legal action ...imagine principle of esteem organization dealing in such a way.
Anyways ,there has to be some more organised process so that there should be end to such exploitation.
Regards!
