Hi Neha,

If cancel admission in KPS then how much amount they will refund?

for IP kids, KPS is not good choice unless they don't have anything else..You should either move to noida or drop from this school..too much travel time for 3 year old kid is not good at all...

Hi everyone

Anyone who was awaiting DPS Noida result today and got to know it. They said they would be declaring the result by 4:00 PM today, but I could not see it. Any other parents who are waiting like me?

Regards

Shikha

Hi Sakshi and all

Seeking your help in a tough situation. My daughter has been selected in both Somerville Noida and FAS Noida. Both the schools have impeccable reputation and its turning out to be a hard decision. I have blocked a seat in both and now need to withdraw from one of them.

I have noticed that by popular opinion, Somerville is getting more recommendations over FAS. However, I am a little confused. So please advise, if possible, with clear data-points. I guess Somerville's feedback is more perception based because of its antecedents, being a very old and established school. However, I feel that Somerville is now into that mode of trying to capitalize on its past reputation instead of moving ahead tranparently with times. Here is why I feel so and the data points I have, I'd earnestly request all of you to contribute so that I ab able to choose the better one out of the two best schools for my little princess:

Somerville:

1. stiff upper lipped about their 3KM radius criterion

2. The process of admission was manual and combersome, with physical call letter, physical forms etc

3. They are not tech savvy. same old queues

4. I know a teacher in Somerville, though she speaks highly about both her school and FAS, she acknowledges(read admits) that the way of schooling and methodology is old in Somerville while FAS has contemporary methodology.

5. Coming back to the admission process, they offered a seat on phone and till I deposited the fee, I had to record/proof that I have been offered admission. Everything was verbal.

6. When I got a call that the admission in confirmed, I asked, how much time I'll have for depositing the fee, I was told, you come tomorrow and collect the form, we will tell you

7. Next day, when I picked up the form, I was told to deposit the fee the next day. I asked for the breakup, I was told when you come tomorrow to deposit the fee, you'll get the breakup

8. when I deposited the fee, I got the breakup, however, when I asked what is the withdrawal policy, I was again told that, "if you need to withdraw let us know, we will tell you; as of now, the decision on refund has not been taken'

9. They have recently increased the fee(note that they are still the 'old-school' school). and they are taking 20,000 rupees in the name of their 'Mission' for a so called full advertisement in their annual magazine which will come out in Dec 2015(pls note its 2015, not 2014). School fees is taken seperately, which is 36000 (it includes one quarter fee, not bus fee)

10. Overall, a very opaque and haughty process, with the intention of the school looking to be inching towards commercial minded approach without any new improvements being introduced.

11. I know one of the old alumni's of the school who says that Somerville is not what it used to be and one of his relatives just shifted their ward from Somerville to DPSG. But again I have a parent whose daughter just passed out of 10th from Somerville with a perfect 10 CGPA and he is extremely satisfied with somerville.

coming to FAS

1. Not received any bad feedback from anyone so far,

2. The fees is very reasonable

3. Tech savvy & transparent

4. Met their schedules. If anything did not meet the schedules, it was done before time and parents were communicated via SMS

5. Have facilities like skating, splash pool etc for kids

6. Are not asking for the quarter fees yet, just deposit 25,000 which include annual and dev. charges. They will probably ask for quarter fees when the quarter begins....i.e. apr15

7. process was very transparent, fair and square.

8. CBSE results for FAS are no less, rather here again they are very transparent about sharing the results...everything is available on their website...topper to the last scorer. however, somerville is just sharing the highlights of their CBSE results

Now, I again seek you advise, I um getting an uncanny feeling about somerville but up being pulled towards it due to popular opinion, most of which is perception based(without concrete data points). Please provide me a few data points so that my decision becomes easier.

thanks a lot

Darpan

Darpan

No school is transparent  and I would request  to give inputs.

Hi Sakshi,

Any idea about Amity Noida monthly fee excluding transport for 2015-2016.

Regards,

Sanjay

hey Sakshi, could you please elaborate

Where did you last paid the fees. Stick to tht school... Simple logic..
Nicely put points darpan... I don't know about Somerville... As my daughter was underage there but yes FAS seems a genuine school... With simple and transparent admission process, I submitted the fees there, it's very nearby.. I left AIN

FAS has branches all over India I believe which is not so true with Somervilla.

Both schools are good. And the best is Somervilla.

Hi darpan,
Both schools r good...u cn chose on the basis of distance. Can pls share the split of fee in Somerville... Thnx in advance.

Darpan,

I do not have any data points as such to make any claim and you have anyways summarised quite well. Still my two cents which definitely rules out admission process which is definitely more tech savvy and transparent in FAS for you (writing for you because those who are not selected do not feel so).

1.) Tech saviness - Definitely for the admission process FAS rules the game but as it's a new school it's easy for them to acquire new processes which is quite difficult for legacy schools. But I am sure even they will catch up on that sooner or later. Just jumping in an hapazard manner will be even more stressing.  Also more important is this how does we get the feedback for our kids performance or rather I should say observation in both the schools. If thats using some online social tools or SMS etc. then definitely FAS scores a lot. For admission process FAS is a new kid on block and have to attract customers while Somerville does not need that. Already have a lot of takers so tight lipped about 3 kms and casual on communications as you just mentioned.

2.) Facilities like skating/swimming, I will say more or less every school have it. Check with Sommerville and even if it's not there it's not a big deal because for proper training you may have to enroll in swimming/skating classes outside. Anyways I hope Noida stadium and Kendriya Swimming Pool Sec 24 should be near to you.

3.) Not asking quarter fees is definitely a delight but I do feel if you compare Somerville to Amity/APJ/DPS even Somerville is very much reasonable. I am paying around 10K per month for my son's fee in APJ.

4.) CBSE results as you said they are no less for FAS and if you keep current CBSE examination in mind it's not that percentage game one we used to have. It's easy and perfect CGPA's are common with no tough marking. So I do not think it should be compared.

5.) If you can try to compare please check olympiads, international competitions, inter-school competitions etc kids from both the schools are competing in. Also what all programs does the school organise to expose kids to these types of exams. Performing or not is definitely an another thing but if the oppourtunity is provided thats a bigger thing according to my perspective.

Saying this if I would have been you I would have chosec Sommerviile  because of my personal believe in legacy and experience. All the best to your kid.

Aditya
