Girl Returning From PlaySchool Found Injured And Crying On Road By Passers-by, Parents Called Up

Indrani Basu | tnn

Noida: Three-year-old Raina Ghosh lay howling near a gutter in Sector 61 on Monday afternoon after she suddenly found herself mud-splattered on the ground. Minutes earlier she had been playing in the backseat of the playschool vehicle that drops her home everyday. The toddler, who attends the well-known Mother’s Pride playschool, was on her way back home when suddenly the rear door of the Qualis swung open and she fell out of the car. Unaware of what had happened, the driver and a woman caretaker present in the car continued to drive on.
Raina was found injured over half-an-hour later by a property dealer and an advocate — both of whom were travelling in their respective cars. The girl received several cuts and bruises and was rushed to Apollo Hospital.
According to her parents, the child was lying covered in mud in the service lane close to Arya Apartments. Her mother alleged that the nearby gutter could have proved to be a death-trap. Raina’s mother, Lalima, said, ‘‘She is usually dropped home by 12.30pm but had been coming late for the last several days. I was aghast to receive a call at 12.50pm from a person who told me that Raina was lying by the roadside. It is my daughter’s good fortune that the incident wasn’t worse. She is too traumatized to even speak.’’ ‘‘I have registered a complaint at Sector 24 police station. It is a case of utter negligence on the part of the school administration. It can happen to other children as well. Making a scapegoat of the driver and caretaker would not solve anything. The child’s safety is the school’s responsibility,’’ said Satyabrata, Raina’s father.
Lalima said, ‘‘We are not sure whether the car was moving when she fell out. The school blamed driver Ajay Tyagi and claimed it was the caretaker’s first day at work. How can the school shirk responsibility? Moreover, when I called the driver after discovering what had happened, he lied to me. He told me that they had forgotten to pick up Raina from the school and were going back to fetch her.’’
The school authorities claimed that it was a freak accident and that they had taken immediate action against the people responsible. Director of the school Sarita Syal said, ‘‘It is an unfortunate incident but there has been no negligence on our part. The car had passed over a ditch on the road. The resulting jerk somehow caused the child lock to malfunction and the door flew open. This is how Raina fell out. The driver realized what had happened within minutes and went back to the spot only to find that Raina had already gone. Such an occurrence is unforeseeable. We have dismissed the driver, the maid, the transport incharge as well as the manager. We also made sure that a medical check-up of the child was carried out.’’
After spotting Raina on the roadside, property dealer Sanjay Khosla and advocate Geetanjali took her safely back to her house. It was the child’s identity card that helped them locate her address.
An FIR has been registered against the driver. Said SP (city) Noida H N Singh, ‘‘A case has been registered for rash and negligent driving, and causing hurt while endangering life. We are investigating if there was any negligence and will take action accordingly.’’

Shamless people! School Authorities should be punished for keeping such horrible untrained staff! how could they miss out the child falling from the car!
Thank god the child is safe. May god bless her and recover her injuries fast.
i am totally shocked and horrified ....but really thank god for saving the child from the worst . The negligence on authorities behalf is absolutely uncompromising.
absolute negligence on the part of the cab driver and the caretaker... how can the school not take the responsibility... the care taker being new is a very lame excuse... new or old they shud have been careful (i thought this was what was expected of them when they join the school staff).....

Heard another news today from Faridabad, where a 6 year old child fell from her school bus and was crushed under the rear wheel and died on the spot.... such an unfortunate incident..... not everyone is lucky like Raina (god bless her).... schools should take serious notes of these incidents and take full responsibilities.... after all we send our kids thru these cab/bus services with the faith in the school authorities....
i m shocked.....thanx to god...she reached home safely...god bless..
i am having gooseflesh after reading this incidence...... a case of gross negligence on school authorities and drivers part...may god bless Raina....I am too worried abt my childs safety as we have hired a private cab for her
Horrible school authorities should pay for the medical expenses and refund all the exhorbitant fees that they charge to take care of our children in the best possible way ...Crap !!
