Alumni Quota Points AGAINST RTE SPIRIT- as per my interpretation - PLS GIVE YOUR VIEWS HERE

Dear Parents

Yesterday i raised this point on delhi aajtak  live show in front of principal springdales  that Alumni point is discrminatory  and she was blank did not have answer

My observations

RTE says you cannot do the profiling of kid on basis of parents education and income

But when we talk of alumni it means the parents is at least educated till 12 grade

so here discrimation is obvious between uneducated parents and educated parents

this suits schools the why this point is kept against RTE spirit

i personaly feel its like adding education poits

THEN WHY EDUCATION POINTS ARE NOT BEING CONSIDERED

PLEASE GIVE YOUR TAKE

Absolutely Mr Mishra, I believe that the time for action is fast-approaching and that unless the parents take a stand then the govt. will simply give in to the powerful school lobbies.  It is a shame that education has been turned into a business but if the parents stand together then we can correct this and force the authorities do what is best for our children and not what is best for the schools.

Well ... I do agree in principle that there shouldn't be any distinction between alumni or non-alumni. However, strictly to show the Alumni perspective, it can be argued that the Alumni has grown up on the principles imbibed by the school. They know the school well and can empathize more with its policies and changes than a stark outsider. For starters they would know where all the facilities are located, whom to approach for addressing concerns, what the strong points of the school were/are etc. Some of the teachers would possibly still be around .. natural to have more empathy towards their second generation students! So if a school feels these would suit their principles, they would be justified in reserving seats for wards of their alumni (to the disadvantage of the general candidates).

I feel all reservations of any kind go against the concept of  RTE. Why should a male child suffer because he was not born a female? What's the mistake of the child if he still has both parents (living / not divorced) or if the parent has not shifted in from outside town? Why is the child penalised if his parents are educated and are in good positions, to not be counted in the EWS? Why just single out the Alumni (again, I'm not in favor of alumni quota ... I'm not in favor of any quota of any kind)!

Agreed, no discrimination is the basis of the RTE, single parent, girl child, first born, alumni, these are all forms of discrimination.  The only thing that the school should be allowed to consider is distance.  The nearer the child is to the school the better for all concerned.

And I still think that the age should be increased to 4+, this would open up more seats in all schools.

Very well done Sumit Ji...You have done ur best...Alumni should not be there in point system...last year most of the schools had given lots of importnace to alumni...This yr again it should not happen

Dear Monika

Thanks i will try to do away with this point

I would like to make a request to all parents to take some time out and give feedback to news channels like NDTV  and CNN-IBN who have not touched at all on this issue.  I am aware that channels like Zee and Aaj Tak are to be commended for helping the voice of parents to be heard by providing national platforms for discussions, however it would be better if more channels would take up this issue, then the ministers would be forced to pay more attention to us.

I think it is shameful that national news channels that claim to be the protectors of democracy have not seized upon this tussle, especially since it is plain that the RTE Act is not being followed in letter or in spirit.

@Praveena  NDTV Took it Yesterday with Mr Ashok aggarwal ( From Parents side and Princpal mount carmal)

Thank you Sakshi, but I still think that parents should send their feedback to the channels, the more the issue is talked about by the news channels the better it would be for us parents.

I concur ..request to all the the parents  to send request to all the channels to add more fuel to the fire

U certainly make sense mr vohra. Go ahead we r with u.

Technically absolutely right

Agree,,, i think its logical also to have distance as only criteria..however in case where there is no good school near by esp WEST delhi.. then there should be some balancing act.

I still believe, we should have group of teachers, parents and some well educated and respected known figures in a panel which can look and advice for some point system. Leaving everything to Govt and on it corrupt employee is not gonna help us.

And most important, its lesson for us.... WE SHOULD VOTE... WE SHOULD VOTE FOR GOOD PARTY... I know many of us don't bother and think voting is wastage of time... but its we who have to face music always... We have seen our money is being wasted in CWG and other activities... Is it acceptable...????

Ask yourself... ?
