Like every year, parents of tiny tots in the Capital are going through testing times to secure a school seat for them.

Amid reports of irregularities by educational institutions and a free hand by the government, Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, however, claims that all is well with the nursery admission process.

Lovely patted his back on Tuesday afternoon after having slapped only three schools - Army Public School, Air Force Golden Jubilee School and the Naval Public School - with showcause notices for flouting rules. He revealed that the education department had opened its own counters to accept forms of the economically weaker section (EWS).

But the fact is in the first 10 days of nursery admissions, the biggest cause of worry for parents has been the multiplicity of criteria set by most schools.

Apart from this, the rigmarole of collecting admission forms and prospectuses as well as standing in serpentine queues has left parents flabbergasted.

>Angry activists, such as admissionnursery. com founder Sumit Vohra, feel that schools have been given a free hand by the state education department. "Schools are flouting all norms and have been served everything on a platter," Vohra says.

Lovely, however, cites figures to justify an "improvement" in the entire procedure. "This year, we have only received 137 complaints as against 642 in 2011. And most of them have been person- centric rather than policy-related," the minister boasts. All the same, confusion abounds.

A parent, who recently applied to get his ward admitted to Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, narrates his ordeal: "My son got 20 points from the school under various criteria. But some other nearby schools have set different benchmarks." He wonders why there is no consistency.

But Lovely says the process is now standardised, takes the credit for it and sums up the matter thus: "Between 60-70 per cent parents in the Capital want to admit their wards in the top 100 schools. We can't guarantee this, but our system guarantees admission to all under RTE."

Nothing is going to improve in hands of Mr.Lovely only law should pave some way and as Mr.Ashok Aggarwal mentioned since govt has failed to frame guidelines judicial help is very essential in this matter.

I concur with you lathaji !!

Irony is despite having such conscious society, the education ministry is totally taking people for grantted. Check out a couple of incidences Today:

Tagore International, Vasant Vihar: Parents spent 40 minut des or so standing in the queue. One parent was quarelling with the admin of this school that why forms are distributed only for 8 days (2-10 Jan) when DoE has set a limit of 15 days...? They had charged 100/- for the form and again charged 100/- for form submission !

Modern School, Vasant Vihar: Again a long queue and the person collecting the form is not even checking whether the docs are in place or not.

St Thomas, Karol Bagh:- Again the form distribution is for 9 days (2Jan-11 Jan). Though the form distribution was suppose to start from 9 AM, the person in charge arrives only at 9:30 leading to a very long queue outside the school!!

If this is the attitude towards parents; not sure how well the kids be taken care of....? Please respond.

The number of complaints to govt. is less since parents have no trust in the system.

Mr Lovely's remark reminds me of my neighbourhood salesman - "No one has complained about this product so far - baast hai ji!".
Well how do you know no one has a problem? Did you go and ask .. just because no one came to you with the problem doesn't mean there's no problem Mr Lovely. If you are the Education Minister, you have to be proactive. Go out and find out what's happening .. at least become a member of this site if you're too lazy to get off your ass! Even if you pick up National newspapers like TOI or HT, you would get to know about the blatant violations happening all around. Of course, if you are deaf, dumb and brain-dead (or a politician) there's no way you can see the writing on the wall!!

very well said Mr. Anand..... he is a politician and so his aSs is in love wid the chair on which he is sHIttiNg.....

Manav Bharati in pansheel park is taking admission test for KG ADMISSION

I was shocked to hear one of my colleagues tell me about "interaction" in Noida for admissions to Play School. They ask the child her name, mother's name and asked whether she can recite poems!
