I agree.......so those who are not alumni of good old school wl never b able to send their kids in these schools...
HI Sakshi and Latha Mam,
On another discussion , I have broadly discussed the present marking system on another discussion started by Shri SP. I will repeat once again what I noticed. Firstly, till 2200s There were only 4 Single Parents applying and got 5 points but still not shortlisted. Special needs category, all were 0 till 2200s, and 90% in transfer cases were zero. also very few were shortlisted from any of these categories.
Now, 1) Special Needs category should not be clubbed with general, even if the school is asking for only orthopaedically challenged children who can join regular kids.
2) Single parents, can get a percentage from general category and this percentage maybe worked upon how many apply in this category every year. this would hardly mean a seat or 2. Truthfully this category does not make much sense in India, but still there may be few who are definitely in need. hence a seat or 2 may be kept for them. And if they are not filled, the seat goes to general category.
3) Transfer cases: This according to me is the most useless category, especially if a school is looking for government employee transfer cases. what's the benefit of school if the child is going to leave in 3-4 years because his parents get transferred. Hence this category is most debatable.
Now the point system that seems most beneficial and least controversial to me would be
1) 50% or more points ought to go to neighborhood. Within this there could be a category division based on 0-3km, 3-8km, etc. Some schools are already following this system
2) Sibling category: this is definitely important as all parents want their kids in the same school. Hense it could take 20 points. But should NOT be more than neighborhood points as in case of DPS.
rest all points of first child/girl child can be kept at minimum of 10/15. Girl child is important in our country. Also, First Child, for people like me who are not alumnus of any school and loose on sibling points too.
This is my view only.
i m totally agree with u juhi..
Juhi - being a very old member on this site .. I can vouch for the fact that we've had several discussions on this topic over the past 5 years. Quite a few members have also showed reluctance against giving points to a girl child in Urban cities .. as the parents felt there's no discrimination against educating the girl child in Metropolitan cities. It goes against parents having a single male child for no fault of theirs! More than giving extra points to any one category - it might be better to split seats by Category and go in for a draw of lots! Split 50% of all General seats between boys and girls. Within the 50%, reserve 30% for say siblings, 5% for differently abled, 15% for Alumni etc. This is the only way parents from call category at least get some chance of making it to a draw!
SIBLING AND ALUMNI BOTH
hw vry true, means no alumini no sibling we feel like loosers, thanx dps and the rest oif the scholls.
This is true for DPS Vasant kunj also. Only 265 applications have been shortlisted for verification of documents out of a total of around 1600 - 1700 applications registered. In these 265 applications majority of them (90%) are point gainers on both sibling and alumini category. We land up with only 30 points of neighbourhood and 5 points for first child / girl child. If this is the criteria, it clearly shows that there is no scope to get into good schools.
