New Delhi: The second list of admission for the entry level classes under the economically weaker section (EWS) and disadvantaged group (DG) category for the 2018-19 academic year was declared on Thursday.

Around 349 students were allotted seats in the second computerised draw of lots by the Directorate of Education (DoE) to fill out the remaining seats.

The first list came out on March 15, in which over 43,000 candidates were selected. However, the Delhi high court had asked the DoE “to ensure that any unfilled seat under the EWS quota be filled from among the pending applications for the academic year 2017-18.”

The high court was hearing a petition on the unfilled seats for the academic year 2017-18 after almost 18,000 seats under the category remained vacant. The second list came amidst allegations that a few candidates were allotted more than one seat in the first admission list and at least one of them was allotted 12 seats.

The issue had come to light after many parents complained to the DoE and on the admissionsnursery.com, the online forum for the parent community.

Following this, activist Sumit Vohra had sent a complaint to the department about the multiple entries.

According to guidelines, 25 per cent seats are supposed to be reserved in all schools for the category and candidates cannot be allotted more than one school. It also states that multiple or duplicate entries shall be liable to cancellation of admission of the candidate.

While those belonging to families with annual income less than Rs 1 lakh can seek admission under the EWS category, the DG category applicants include SC, ST, OBC, non-creamy layer, physically challenged, orphan, transgender, and all children living with or affected by HIV.
