Cases of child abuse rising in Ghaziabad schools

2 kids molested in I’puram school

Both are three-and-a-half years old; 25-year-old caretaker arrested

GHAZIABAD: Two pre-nursery students — both three-and-a-half years old — were allegedly molested by a caretaker of Mother’s Pride school in Indirapuram in the national capital region. Police arrested the school caretaker, Sher Singh, on Tuesday.

About two months ago, the driver and conductor of a school bus were arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a six-year-old girl student of DPS, Vasundhara.

The molestation case came to light on Tuesday, when one of the children refused to attend school. When her mother, who happens to be a teacher at the same school, enquired, she said the caretaker had molested her and a classmate during recess.

The girl also told her mother that the caretaker had done this quite a few times and warned them not to mention it to anyone. Twenty-five-year-old Singh has been employed with the school for the past three years.

The victim’s parents claimed to have reported the matter to the school authorities on Tuesday morning and were assured by the school authorities that immediate action would be taken. But they alleged that the school authorities did not report the matter to the police till late evening.

Gorakh Nath Yadav, station in-charge of Indirapuram police station said, “We have arrested the accused and booked him for molestation. Police will investigate the role of the school authorities in the matter. Both students have been sent for the medical examination.”

He added that police investigations were underway and they were questioning Singh, who would be produced in a Ghaziabad court on Wednesday

The molestation of two pre-school children by a school caretaker on Tuesday is not a one-off incident. Of late, there have been several such instances where the security of children have been compromised in schools. But the police and administration seem helpless in the prevention of
such incidents.

In September, a six-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by the driver and conductor of a reputed public school in Vasundhara. The incident had led to a huge public outcry. Due to public pressure, the school authorities had finally admitted their mistake.

An inquiry had also been ordered by the district administration into the incident. However, the girl’s parents  withdrew her from the school as they were not assured of child’s safety.

“Such cases are on the rise. The administration has to ensure that all kids, especially girls, are safe in schools. There is no fear of police among criminals.

School authorities must also be held responsible for the incident,” said col (retd) TP Tyagi of the Ghaziabad RWA Federation.

Acting swiftly, senior police and administration officials have already ordered an inquiry into Tuesday’s incident to be conducted by the district’s basic education officer.

“The inquiry will bring out all facts. If found guilty, action will be taken against school officials. We will also seek an explanation as to why no female caretakers were employed for the children,” superintendent of police (SP) SS Yadav told Hindustan Times. Police sources said that the accused has admitted to his crime.

Revealing more into the incident, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prashant Kumar said though there were reports about two girls being molested, only one girl’s parents had filed a complaint.

“If anyone has more complaints, they can freely approach the police. As of now, there is no need for the girls’ medical examination,” the SSP added.

its really painful to hear this news . such people should sue . i think school should take hard action instead of saving them

All these cases happening leave me in utter shock. its like as if you are sending your child into this....... Whom to trust????  Schools are thought to be one place were children seem to be in a  Protected environment, where they learn, enjoy and have fun,One Place where Parents feel that the children are safe especially the Play School, and these culprits use such small and naive young kids who can barely speak out their Names for such a  Hideous Act of theirs.

God be with our children......

This is second incident in last two months in mothers pride. The previous one was of a 3 yrs girl molested in washroom by a staff member. But the news was sulressed and parents were assured for better care of kids by installation of CCTV and removal of male staffs. But no action was taken and result is second incident with two lil girls... Shameless school.... All they want business to fill there pockets.

Completely agree with u Nidhi....We had visited their Munirka branch and i's shocked to look at the center head...the way she's dressed up , very cheap and manner less body language. cudnt believe her indecent clothes and grown-sharp nails with bright red nail  paint.....nowhere hygienic at all...and they were so desperate to take our kid , unbelievably gave us 70% discount in fess....we realised tht this isnt the right place for our kid. i guess this school is privately owned and care-takers are all relatives , so no concern about their own knowledge, education and personality.

Really very sad that our kids are not safe in schools and whereas we feel that school is safest place for child.

strick action should be taken against such incident ...

Oh my God... My son goes to the same school. I'm shocked! I wish I could change the schools but it's so difficult to get admission anywhere else...

Yes I agree with Retesh these schools must be immersed in front page of news papers

Sure ,we will highlight RIts

This is shocking. Strict actions should be levied. Going further, there should be a separate column mentioning all these incidences about the school while nominating them for Best School Ratings in any area.

My daughter studies in the same school and I am extremely petrified of sending her to school now...school has tried to play down the incident and I am very sure nothing much is going to happen as school will do whatever it takes to supress the case and save their reputation. I completely agree with Rits...not just on nurseryadmission website but it should also be bought in the media, its only then they would take any action. Stringer laws and strict action by school authorities is the only way to crub such instances. Unless the culprit is given a severe punishment, which instills fear of law in people's mind, I do not think such acts can be stopped.

Adding to the Avdesh,

there must be certain agencies which should check whether school has implemented all the checks in place. Also need to make sure the things are getting monitored continuously.

Moreover there should be huge punishment to the school management in case of any failure.

I wonder why this school has not implemented CCTV Cameras yet, although small school has the same. Moreover parents can check any time what their kids are doing there.

There must be Audit implemented in the schools to check the basic parameters like child safety, cctv camera, safety during commutation before ranking the school in top categories.

Sakshi please suggest what best can be done to protect our lil kids.
