New Delhi: Delhi’s public schools managed to improve their pass percentage in the CBSE class X results, even as the overall pass percentage of public schools across the country witnessed a marginal drop of 0.1%. For Delhi schools, the pass percentage touched 92.85%. In 2009 it was 91.67%. But Delhi’s performance was marred by the reduction in the number of merit certificates notched up by students of public schools - from last year’s 1,244 to just 660 this year.
But with no toppers and marks to display, it were the merit certificaes that kept being bandied around by schools eager to showcase their performance. Among the leaders by that yardstick, are Amity International, Noida with 51 students scoring an A1 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) - one student scored A1 grade in all the five subjects - Kulachi Hansraj Model School with 36 A1 CGPA and DPS RK Puram with 25 A1 CGPA.
‘‘It has nullified the hierarchy based on marks among schools and students that the earlier method of evaluation unwittingly encouraged. Stress has reduced and we are happy with the grades because the cut-throat competition is not there any more,’’ said Varun Grover of DPS R K Puram.
