No nursery admissions in private Delhi schools till final verdict, orders court

Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered private schools in Delhi to not allow nursery admissions till it gives a final verdict on the validity of government's 2010 notification and whether it follows the Right to Education Act. "Schools cannot formulate their own admission policies," the court further ordered.

The notification allows schools in Delhi to formulate their own guidelines and preferences based on religion, sibling and alumni to admit children in nursery. The court had earlier said the Centre and the Delhi government cannot "dilute" RTE Act by allowing unaided private schools to use their own criteria for nursery admissions.

The court had also said the ongoing nursery admission process in Delhi would be cancelled if it decides to "quash" the notification issued on December 15, 2010 by the Directorate of Education (DoE) on behalf of Delhi government.

Every school / thier website talks about their mission / philosophy / aim to impart education which is morally correct, making good citizens, providing correct envioronment...

And during admissions they adopt all immoral means

Criteria should be,

DISTANCE only... weightage may be different as per radial distance, say 1st category : 3km / 2nd category: 3 to 5km and so on...

SIBLING criteria if at all to be kept they may reserve few seats for the same and draw of lot among sibling cases for those seats.

ALUMNI should not be a criteria at all...don't forget this is a democratic country...

TRANSFER CASE : should not be a criteria at all...

SINGLE PARENT : should not be a criteria at all... why to give point to the child on basis of sympathy...at the very first stage of life....

FIRST BORN : If sibling is not there, then this may also be scrapped...otherwise it should be there...

About draw of lots ...it has to be transparent...

If sibling points are there then First born should also be there.

But sibling points & first born points will cancel out each other !

Pondering ...

so that is why the schools smartly give lesser points to first born generally.

totally agree with you on this Sandeep, its not that kids are not getting admission at all,its just that they're not getting it in DPS etc ,the fault lies with the parents thinking that only these schools are good ,and about donations , would schools charge if we did'nt pay.all we need is uniformity, coz for people like me neighbourhood is the most unfair criteria , schools within 3-5 km don't consider us as our colony is not included n the list, Farther schools don't consider us b'coz of distance.

Well then may be there should a uniform point system for all schools... where same points is given for neighborhood categories based on distances. However another issue is that some schools do not have some neighborhoods covered in bus routes and thus there point system is based on that... and they give equal points to all localities covered by bus routes... which to me seems sensible and reasonable... what say??

When the points for first born child are also removed then even a sibling will have the same points in each school.

I am not saying we just need to remove siblings points and keep first born child points. I am just saying only distance should be the criterion and kids from neighbourhood should get a preference for a reserved number of seats.

same for me , i don't want my younger kid to the same school , but i'm losing points everywhere.

so wouldn't you be glad if there were no points for first born child either. That even your second child got the same points as someone's first born? This can happen only when points for both first born and siblings are removed. And all children get an equal opportunity to get admission.

most top schools run on old systems and don't have A/c classrooms or buses , and if u check the fee structure , most of the old estabilished names charge very reasonable fees , its the new fangled schools that provide these facilities like a/c and charge hefty fees , if u se the complaints about dinations , they are from new schools only .The old schools have a name b'coz of thre past results , academic and extracurricular.Although this dose'nt mean that the newer schools are any worse , we just don't know yet .Infact with the novel chld centric approach of schools like Sri venkateshwara and ambience public schools , in a few years these might be the sought after ones.

It would be so difficult for parents like us who are applying for their second child admission and if the second child does not get admission in the same school as his/her sister/brother then the parents first would have to struggle for the admission in other school and then would have to later if successful in getting admission somewhere would have to face the two different education patterns as each school will have their own systems and processes . it would be a tuff time ahead................... think sibling criteria should have some consideration.....................

Doesnt first child have any right to education? Consider the fact that almost 100% seats in lists declared so far have gone to either siblings or alumni. Now consider this: Result of Goodley & Modern public school: 90% in first list are girls. Rest 10% are single parents, transferable parents, etc. Is this not gender-biasness. I live just next to these 2 schools, yet my name does not even figure in the list. More shock: in 4 schools where I scored full marks in neighborhood, my sons name has not come even in a single school just because of preference to girl child, sibling, alumni etc. What system is this & still I have no hope that our Govt has the capability of bringing some uniformity.
