Court orders rollback of fee hike by school

The students of the Ramjas School, Anand Parvat, got a sigh of relief with the Delhi high court on Tuesday ordering the rollback of the `400 tuition fee hike effected by the school authorities in March 2011.

“The Directorate of Education (DOE), government of Delhi, is directed to pass an order against the school to rollback the hiked fee in four weeks and inform the court by September 9, the next date of hearing in the case,” said Justice Kailash Gambhir.
The court passed the order after DOE’s lawyer informed the court that the committee, set up by the department, has found in an inquiry that the school has violated the government’s April 2010 notification.
As per the notification, it was stated that the annual fee hike is not mandatory on the part of the school and schools must explore the possibilities of utilising the existing fund before hiking the tuition fee.
The court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents alleging Ramjas School in Anand Parbat has arbitrarily hiked the tuition fee for the year 2011-2012.

It's just a head start.  Government should monitor properly the annual accounts with perfect accounting standards  by proper auditors in all schools. As you told if more parents come forward and file like this 3/4th of the private schools will come under check.  Hope this order will show some way for the schools to update with educational and moral human values than updating with financial values.

Lathaaji u r spot on
I think the onus of finding schools's misdoing in fee-hike now comes directly on DOE. Hon'ble Courts  will use this case as an example for any further litigation against any undue hike by schools if they are found violating DOE guidelines. So DOE must come forward and send a circular to all regulated schools regarding the same, to warn schools beforehand not to violate the same.
I concur with you lathaaji and Mr Bij !!

Is this order applicable to all the schools in Delhi.  The Indian School has also raised their tution fees

My son's school in Dwarka, hiked the transport fee by 300- 600 Rs (based on distance) per month this july and this was done last july, too. they justified it by saying " we have not hiked tuition fee in last two years although it is MANDATORY for us to do according to DOE rules..."!!!!
