New Delhi, 26 December
While many parents are happy with the new guidelines but some belonging to the elite groups are complaining about the distance criteria norms after the abolition of the management quota.
Parents eyeing to get their wards admitted to the schools are sulking on the verity of lack of good schools in the six-kilometre radius of their locality. "I want my child to get admitted in DPS or Vasant Valley but after the abolition of the management quota, there are lesser chances to get admission in a good school," said a resident of South Delhi who did not want to be identified.
On the other hand, a DoE official maintained, "Parents should not go after brands and try their ward to get admitted in any of the schools nearby which is falling under six kilometres of radius."
Further, parents claim that the schools nearby are huddled with no first-rate environment for their kids. "A better environment is also required as in big schools teachers bestow attention to our wards and there is always a room for the quality environment for their schooling," said Sapna, a Chartered Accountant from south Delhi.
Meanwhile, parents also argued on the fact that distance criterion should be altered and should be extended up to 10 kms. "I want my child to get admission at Sanskriti school but it is not falling under the radius of the area we are putting up. We are hoping it would be extended up to 10 kms. before 15 January," said a parent.
Mr Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com says that parents of Delhi have a propensity to believe some schools which have a brand name are good. "Parents are fond of sending their kids to schools where the rich and influential send theirs. They want the right crowd for their tutoring and schooling, I prefer to call them the  creamy layer people."

Distance should be given points on staggered basis .It should be extended to 10 Km but different points for different distances so that neighborhood criteria remains in role.0-3 km should be given different points as compared to 3-6 km so that child studies in his closest school which spares his time.

Agree ...either it should be staggered points for distance or at least 10kms should b the radius... Its ridiculous how the govt wants to control everything.. The school should have some autonomy... Instead of putting undue pressure on pvt schools they need to elevate the govt school standards...

Have one query on Birth certificate .. is it mandatory to have name of child on birth certificate as per new guidelines.

Hi Rajat,

My sincere advise please get one issued with the name of the child. Also while doing this exercise please get 10 copies as you don't what is asked.

I am getting more confused with the demand for 10 KM radius. Do you want to say that people who live near such creamy school have no right and there house are extensions of parking lot for creamy layer.

Then a more realistic demand will be 5 points for sibling, 5 points for transfer case, no alumni points 90 points for 0-1 KM 80 points for 1-3 KM 70 points for 4-6 KM and so forth and can stretch it to 20 KM.

Imagine my wife went to an all girls school and I went to a convent school which is no where closer to my house so we loose alumni points inspite from being part of reputed school. Also it should be from same branch of school not part of that school franchise anywhere in the world.

While saying this we empathise with parents but we also loose out to schools like mothers international, DPS RK puram, Laxman Public School, Blue bells and so on.

Ideally, no parent wants that his child spends lot of time to reach school. It is the very nature of every parent to always make his child comfortable. Majority of parents want school for their child at the door step. But they are helpless if they don't find good schools in the close vicinity.

For example, the type of gentry who lives in Janakpuri don't have schools which matches their expectations except st. franscis and st. marks. And these only two schoools are not capable enough to serve around two lakh residents of Janakpuri.
There are couple of other schools but not up to the mark. And situation of government schools in Janakpuri are far behind general expectations.
I believe that the number of government schools in Janakpuri are sufficient enough to serve the requirement of Janakpuri residents. But government had never been in a mood to improve the standards of these schools according to the living standard of the people staying there.
Hence Janakpuri residents opts for schools outside Janakpuri and most likely in Dwarka. And Janakpuri government schools are used by outer Delhi residents. Total MISMANAGEMENT.

Government/DOE should first do the improvements at ground level before making meaningless admission guidelines. Again, no parent wants that his child has to suffer by covering long distance everyday. It is government's lack of planning which forces people to take those tough decisions.

They do not want to put efforts to bring improvements but making current eductaion system and infrastructure more messy.
Lets hope if new Delhi CM will use his mind in making new policies and guidelines.

Now the distance has been raised to 8 KM so more schools in catchment.

@ Rajat

Few schools ask for name of the child entered in BC. So better get it done.
