Applications at 20 schools, kid's name figures in none

New Delhi, March 8, 2016, DHNS:

Nursery admission system discriminatory: Parents

With the process for nursery admissions coming to an end, some children could not make it to the selected list of any of the schools, even after applying to 20 different places.

While some parents were elated as their children made it to the list of various schools, some were left dejected as their wards’ names did not appear even in the second lists at schools.

Point system

The parents alleged that the point system was “discriminatory” and did not work in their favour.

Shahid Salam, a resident of Okhla, had applied to various schools like Cambridge, Kalka Public School, Tagore International, Blu Bells, Hamdard, DAV School, etc but could not secure a seat for his kid, Sadiq — the second-born.

“We only got points in neighbourhood criteria and there were only three schools within one to two km. Rest of the points were reserved for either girl child, alumni, first-born or siblings. Parents like us have a disadvantage,” he said.

Similarly, Monika Gupta, a resident of Jangpura, had applied to 20 schools for her child.

Pinning hopes

She was pinning her hopes on the second list, but said the schools did not issue a fresh list and cleared names of children in the first waiting list.

Though she had the benefit of ‘first-born’ points but still could not get a seat for her child.
“The whole process is so tedious and it is painful when in the end you are left with nothing,” she said.  Since the process will end on March 31, Monika is keeping her fingers crossed.

“I am praying that he (son) gets a call from at least one school before that. Otherwise, we only have the option of sending him to a small school nearby and then again try next year for KG,” she said.

Education activist Sumit Vohra, who is also the founder of admissionsnursery.com, an online portal for the parent community, said, “We have many parents who are going to Noida and Gurgaon as they could not get admission anywhere near their residences. Many three-year-olds will be forced to commute for two hours for their school. The point system mostly favoured sibling and alumni”.

When Sumit Vohra, Founder of this site, fought for this unjustified point system in year 2012, the few of the schools reduced the points for alumni and sibling but did not eliminate fully.
We all will keep on paying various taxes to Govt but Govt will not raise the standard of Govt School. 25% quota to EWS is also unreasonable. Why cant Govt raise the standard of their school. They pay higher salary to their teachers than the Pvt Schools.

MAM IN ADDITION TO THE TAXES WE ARE ALSO SUPPOSED TO GIVE DONATIONS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION TO OUR CHILDREN. JUST BECAUSE WE ARE WORKING HARD TO ACHIVE SOMETHING...

BUT THE PERSONS NOT INTERESTED IN WORKING HARD OR ACHIEVING SOMETHING GET ALL THE BENEFITS FROM GOVT.... QUOTA AND RESERVATIONS...

THE SIMPLE SOLUTION TO THIS SHOULD BE TO ADD SECOND SHIFT TO EACH PRIVATE & GOVT. SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION TO EWS. THIS WILL REDUCE THE COST FOR GOVT. ALSO PROVIDE MORE SEATS TO ALL THE CANDIDATES..

But what is the solution, we have also applied in 16 school and still waiting for the result to come.all hope are gone now, being a resident  of Delhi what is the benefit. Its a compulsory education and is it practical? to send your child for two hours journey if the child is only 3.6 yrs old. No i am not agree on this i will not send my daughter to very far.Better we will have to shift from Delhi.

THIS POINT SYSTEM IS BASE LESS AND NOT APPROPRIATE FOR ADMISSION.

AS WE HAVE FILLED 32 FORMS FOR DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, FOR MY FIRST CHILD (SON). BUT HIS NAME IS NOT EVEN THERE ON A SINGLE LIST. EVEN NOT IN THE SCHOOL WHICH WE ARE ALUMINI OFF.

WHAT ELSE IS EXPECTED FROM PARENTS, WHO ARE JUST SEEKING GOOD EDUCATION FOR THEIR CHILDREN...

Sakshi, can u pls update me on vacancies in East delhi schools OR nearby. I have tried approaching schools personally for the availability but there was no seats avail so far.

Meenu

you can try in noida schools near your home.

Yes, ridiculous point system... We too faced similar problem. We are living in Karol bagh and there are 5-6 within 2-3 kilometers. My son not selected in any school. What is the meaning on point system, not getting sit in any school leaving close to school?

We were unlucky last year and this uear too.

Jai

where are you putting up

I too apply in more than 30 schools for my second boy child.. my first child is differently abled child.. I cannot get him admitted in normal school as no school take cares of such students... my second child is not a girl child .. He got marks only of neighbourhood and because of no fault of his,he could not get admission.. His name is not there in first list of all schools except one..

Government should give weightage/marks to those children who have differently abled brother/sister.. so that they can get admission in good school...
