Distance - how accurately can we know?

Can I not fill the form where Google map app shows me 1.3 kms and Google web page shows me 900m. What's right when one qualifies and another doesn't?

Google Map is more accurate not Google Web Page. It shows distance between two exact points rather than distance between locality and a school.

However, it is upto schools how they measure the distance. School's mgt  may play tricks when it comes to a tie between two candidates.
