I agree, it is too late in the day - and not at all well though of decision - How do they hope to implement, is DOE for lip service or some action.
This decision opens a pandora's box, all admissions need to be subject to revision now. Different schools have different criterion for professions - it is not just professional parent, school giving points to government servants, to armed forces, to police, transferable jobs, even reservation for particular class of government servants - all is questionable.
If we take the spirit of the decision, points based on group discussions and interaction with parents are also wrong, as what is judged is parents ability, and not childs.
So it is a start from scratch - is the system ready for it ?
This is a big question, DOE by this order is questioning the basic rules set by itself on nursery admission. Though it may be for good - it cannot be half baked ideas put in implementation at a late stage. DOE needs to specify then that the basis is that any points based on parents ability, profession aor qualification are discreminatory. This may even lead to questioning Alumni points.
Which means the only points that can be awarded are for distance, sibling and may be for girl child for social reasons. And the only reservation permissible should be for EWS.
By this are we saying that the choice of slecting a student does not rest with the school - it rests with the parents. And then simply because schools will not be able to accomodate every one - it falls on a lottery system.
I am sure most parents would be OK with it - provided such decisions are well though of, well implemented and in the true spirit of equity.
So my suggestion to DOE - please overhaul in enterity, do not take adhoc decisions at last moments - parents are hassled enough, kindly do not make the experience worse.
He has condemned their action ..c the article ..had it not been done other schools also wud have changed the points without informing anyone ..like gyan bharti /blue bells did?
Vivek Sharma said:good one - but where it will lead to ----more chaos?
Ideally the point system should be designed by DOE and given to schools and most important criteria should be of distance. It's a ridiculous situation here that some school is giving preference to INDIAN IDOLS (read indian culture), some is offering seats to Kubers and few to those lucky ones who have their first kid studying prior to the implementaiton of point system.
But it's too late for the action of DOE. Most of the schools have already come up with their first list or second. DOE action is too late.............to have any effects now.
actually i am quite infuriated by this , if they have to make a guidilines it should have been done before the admission process started.......how can they suddenly wake frm there slumber and make all together diff rules.....if these r the rules then majority of us have to seriously think abt homeschooling.......
in our case we r frm diff state though living in delhi frm abt 10 yrs....so obviously no alumini points, first child ,boy child ...no sibling points .no girl points,....pvt job ,non transferable....we lose there....only thing which we had was qualification and neighbourhood points....NOW if qualification is removed then only neighbourhood point ...and tht too all schools have diff marks for neighbourhood...no UNIFORM STANDARDS....some r giving max 40 points and some r giving max 20......so actually u r at the mercy of the school....and doe and can only hope tht ur neighbourhood school gives u 40 and if it doesnt then go bback to ur native place and may b u can get admission there.......and leave delhi coz u cannot secure admission for ur kid......
