The Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely, on Wednesday, said schools across the Capital will follow last year’s criteria for admission to nursery this year. He also informed that three-plus is the eligible age for the admission to the class.

“Schools across the Delhi shall follow the old criteria (for admission to nursery),” Lovely told Newsline. “We held a meeting with the HRD Ministry and they have agreed to this. We are still waiting for clarifications from them, but schools will follow the criteria followed till last year.” “The admissions for nursery will begin from December 15 and conclude on March 31.”

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act which was implemented in April this year bans screening of the child at the time of admission. It has been presumed, therefore, that schools might have to follow the “draw of lots” system to select students and do away with the earlier selection criteria.
At present, Delhi schools follow the point system formulated in 2007 by the High Court-appointed Ganguly Committee, which aims to make nursery admission uniform across schools. According to this system, schools allotted points to children according to their sibling, alumni, neighbourhood etc. That means child of an alumni gets more points as compared to other children.

Confusion grew as there are no clear guidelines from the Directorate of Education regarding the procedure to be followed this year. The DoE officials, meanwhile, said the guidelines would be out by month-end. “Action will be taken against schools that have already started the admission process,” said an official.

I like to ask from mr. Lovely that what is his control on school fees n school asking for high donation for nursery or school admission. Not a single public school in dwarka or i would better like to say it in delhi is giving admission without donation.what is our govt. doing in that respect & plz don't tell me that you guys don't know that schools are asking for donation.if so than its really miserable for fate of our country that our leaders don't know what all happening in our country.
@Pranav ji... I totally agree with you. this time they should answer this question and put a strong action to curb this problem. major Public Schools ask for a big donation amount, even if the child has been through for the admission. I think @Sumit Vohra ji, you really should put this question forward during the program you are going to attend !!
I also want to put forth strongly that reputed schools ask for big donation amount and morever Is there any policy from the Indian Govt about the school fee structure as every year fees are incresing exponentially and in Delhi inflation rate is too high. Now -a- days it is becoming very difficult to afford primary education for two children. And morever on noida expressway almost eevry school fee is almost more than 8000 per month which is excluding the transportation. Why govt is encouraging these type of schools? What is the benefit Delhi and UP education ministry is getting ? Now -a-days it is also becoming like medical facilities that if you have free flow money then you can afford schools education and (not professional courses) otherwise not..I request Sumitji to raise the question strongly.
I completely agree with this. I would like to know is a child of 3 years prepared and fit to go to school? the pressure overstresses the child. hence, the age should be increased to 4+ for nursery admissions. children of 3 years are very delicate . just remember how did u react when you were 3 years? probably you don't even remember.please have mercy on the kids. they have to be relaxed and take studies stress freely else this hampers the development of a child. also, I fear that the teachers these days do not make efforts for the child.everything is left to be taught as home work.why is the school fees given and why do the schools charge for extra monetary contributions now and then?kindly make education a sacred and systematic profession. And at such a low age let the child begin and prove. He or she should not be rejected or kept away from learning. else will they learn? assessment can be done at a later stage.maybe at class 5.children are angels and they must get the opportunity from the education providers to begin. All children require different attention. hence, please make things good and not selfish. Please ensure this is done throughout the country.
With all due respect I disagree with this. We're talking of best case and worst case scenario's. The best case is that a child gets admitted as soon as he becomes three, and the worst case is someone born on first week of April. If the age gets increased to 4+ years, the April born ends up sitting at home till he's 5 years old. Can you as a parent afford this in today's day and age?? Also, since last year 3+ children got admitted, it essentially means that children in nursery and KG class would be of the same age. Is that fair?

My suggestion is to increase the age to 4+, but as on September and NOT 31st March. That way, the youngest child to get admitted would be between 3.5 to 4 years, and the oldest would be 4 - 4.5 years. That is the best middle path to avoid stress on very young children, and also ensure that they get the headstart in life which their peers across the country are getting today.
see , I am not talking of the age criteria as on......any date. I just want to say that that certain schools are adamant on a child who';s 3 years and they reject a child who's four. I am only stressing on the pressure for a 3 yr child. aybe you din't gt my point.
i would like to ask that if lottery system is implemented the whole system would become more messy resulting in approaches being made to principals and huge donation amounts.atleast with point sytem, things have become streamlined.
I totally agree with what you have stated, infact i feel their is if not much, but some sort of transparency with the point system in place. But Lottery will be an unfair approach to give admissions to our kids. Imagine the future of our kids in the hands of just "luck". Its crazy and scary.
Can anyone give proper insight on this one..as in this criteria holds good only for delhi schools or the entire NCR schools? Plz let me know if this wud work for gurgaon schools...bcoz most of the schools here still follow 3.5 yrs even if it is CBSE,.....ny committee keeping a check on gurgaon schools??????????
Why is a lot of weightage given by some schools on the alumni? If I or my spouse have not studied in the school why are we being denied admission to that school.
schools just look for parents with good bank balance.I think this should stop.If they are running a school they are supposed to serve education.
