New Delhi: Delhi government may pay anything between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,300 to schools from 2011-12 session as reimbursement for the tuition fee of students admitted under the quota for the economically-weaker section.
According to state education minister Arvinder Singh, the amount will be enough for most schools to bear the cost of educating 25% economically-weaker section students for free. The directorate of education (DoE) is likely to issue a circular in this regard in a couple of days.
Schools have been contesting that they may be forced to hike the fee of the general category students as government reimbursement will be meager as compared to the amount they spend on each student.
However, Singh said on Thursday, “There are nearly
3,000 schools in the city. As per our survey, around 2,500 of them charge less than Rs 1,000
per month from every child. In that case, what we pay to schools should be enough. We will also provide uniforms and books to the economically-weaker section students.”
Though the application process for economicallyweaker section candidates ended on Thursday, Singh insisted that the directorate of education had not received any ‘serious’ complaint against any school so far.
He added that any school left with vacant economically-weaker section seats should inform the directorate of education.
“We will have the records of every school. It will enable us to know how many children could not find admission in the economically-weaker section at the end of the process. If they are willing, we will divert them to schools which could not fill up all its EWS seats,” the minister said. As for complaints against violations in the general admission procedure, Singh informed that the DoE had taken action against 15 schools this month forcing them to rectify their admission criteria.
“We do not want to interfere in the functioning of schools but RTE rules cannot be compromised. If a school fails to abide by the rules, we can de-recognise it. We can even take over such a school,” he said while admitting that not all complaints could be addressed last year.
“It was not humanly possible to address each complaint individually. We may not be able to take action against all schools but at least there is a system in place now. Till few years back, parents were not aware of their rights and their was no monitoring. But things have improved and will get better in the coming years,” Singh said.

hi sakshi, i think their website is not updated and this must be last year criteria as you can age 4+ as on 31st march 2010 whereas it should 4+ on 31st march 2011 for this year. am i right?

My daughter has been selected in st. lawrence school and they have asked me to deposit the admission fees latest by 24.1.2011, otherwise you admission will be cancelled. I m in trouble if my daughter is selected in other good school of my choice the fees will not be refunded by the school. What to do now, please help me.

We have been asked by Sachdeva Public school Rohini and Pitam Pura, both to deposit Rs. 36000 cash non refundable. This is not acceptable, why does DoE not takes up such issues and do some justice to parents.

 

Also Vikas Bharti school in Rohini is asking for 40K cash refundable, but no receipt will be given for it. Do not knw if ppl. deposit money, how will they get refund without any acknowledgement.

Dear Mr Lovely,

                       I have applied to DPS east of kailash and they are giving 26 points to those staying in F Block and 20 points to those staying in other blocks. I stay at distance of 500m from school and because of less points my son may not get admission. All other schools are giving points according to the distance rather than blocks. i have already complained to you but didnt get any reply.

Green fields School (Nursery Division B-1/12, Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi) has come out with a list of shortlisted  kids.

They are calling the kids for an "interaction".

I asked the headmistress what this was about as interaction was supposed to be against the guidelines.  She said she needed to know the child, the parents, the background of the kids. I asked whether  she was screening by this interaction and she  very vehemently said no and just asked me to wait for her courier.

 

I would like to bring this to the notice of the government if they really do want schools to follow the law.

LOVELY............how can u say tht everythg is ok after seeing DPS dwarka list.........only sibling and alumni ha sgot the seat wht wrong first born has done............why u  hv stoppe dpointrs for qualification and profession when u wnat alumni to be given importance... talking bat population ctrl in INdia an dgiving points to sibling.........kya majaak bana rakha hai.....................aapka bacha to kahin par bhi admission mil jaayge ....when u hv got the seat  then do think abtgeneral public else u guys wont gte seat again..after all god is alos theree

wht mr. singh want a FIR against these school...

wht's the meaning of seriousness in his eye.. are we parents not serious for our kid future

he is willing only for EWS wht about Gen category
