As pre-school admissions are underway in schools across NCR, the Haryana Education Minister expressed concern over the “unstructured” admission process followed in the state and said her government might look to replicate the Delhi model and have a calendar in place.
“I agree that there are problems with the admissions schedule followed by the private schools, especially in Gurgaon. We need to look into it and fix it,” Haryana Education Minister Geeta Bukkal told Newsline over the phone.
She said there is a need to plan and structure the pre-school admissions to help reduce parents’ anxiety.
“Every year there are new private schools opening up in Gurgaon and they need to fill in seats. So, they start the admission process earlier than other schools. This causes a lot of problems for the parents. They have to keep tab of each and every school. We will try and fix this problem,” she said.
Mansi (Parent Of AN.Com), an HR executive with a private company has been keeping tab on schools’ pre-school admission from August. Lotus Valley International School at Gurgaon sold its forms from August 23 to August 30 last month. Others in Noida are accepting applications at present.
Arun Awasthi, an engineer says, “My wife and I work. We don’t get much time but we have to keep tab on each and every school that issues forms. This unplanned admission season is troubling.” The pre-school admissions in Gurgaon are mostly determined by schools’ interaction with the parents. Most of the schools, even the new ones that have opened in the Millennium City select their pre-school students after interactions with the parents. However, a few schools have started replicating the 100-point selection criteria - followed in schools across Delhi - where, schools take into consideration distance from home the
school, sibling and alumni criteria and grant points according to that.Bukkal said, “I am aware that schools in Gurgaon start admissions process as early as August. And, parents are supposed to submit fees in that school. However, other schools start admissions in October. This year we will try and find solutions to the refund issues that parents face as well. We too should have an admissions calender.”
The Minister hinted that the the state directorate of education might try and replicate the Delhi model of pre-school admissions.
“We need to improve the current admissions process and we will look into the matter seriously.”
In Delhi, the Directorate of Education issues a calender and within a given time frame all schools are supposed to start and end the registration process. The directorate also issues dates for the announcements of the first, second and the third list of the selected candidates.

Dear Parents
As we are getting daily atleast 15 plus mails regarding parents dilemma regarding fee refund and confusion in choosing the school as there is no common admission process in NCR
On Mr Sumit Vohra's insistence Ms Maroosha(correspondent of Indian Express )Talked harayana Ecucation Minister.. Mr Vohra's has also insisted for Same Noida so we would be touching base with Noida soon
I agree with you, schools in gurgaon follow their own system. No common calendar for the adimissions, it starts from Augest ane extend till January. It must follow guidlines followed by Delhi Schools. Common dates for availability of forms, its submission, declaration of First, Second or third List.
Currently, parents are at mercy.
I agree with you Rahul but harayana does not come under thhe purview of DOE ( directorate of education) rules applicable for only for schools under delhi jurisdiction
Even doe does only lip service....less than 50% of schools refund money inspite doe strict guodeline
Your guess is as good as mine :)
Actually they have education department but are toothless cannot bite the biggies
they have to just issue an notification and all schools should adhere to it
but its an herculean task
Feeling great to know that Haryana Education Minister had paid heed to the issues raised by Mr.Vohra. Hope Minister will quicken the process of fee refund policy as early as possible and relieve the stress of parents. It's welcome that the Govt. would like to replicate the Delhi model. I would suggest them to update with centralised Point system with centralised admission process along with it. "Do not praise the day until the sunset". Hope for the best at the earliest. Anyway we have to thank Mr.Vohra for all his efforts for the sake of parent community in NCR and Delhi.
Thanks a ton Sumit sir for always raising the vital issues being faced by parents first hand with the authorities in Delhi & NCR...Hope that Haryana state adopts the salient guidelines of RTE and make the pvt. schools in Gurgaon & Faridabad answerable to parents in key issues of admissions & fee refunds..
Let them also follow a common process as mandated and monitored by Delhi DOE so that parents can know from a single circular of state Government about the guidelines schools are going to abide by.
Hope this may come effective in near future at NCR areas of Uttar Pradesh (Noida, Ghaziabad..) too.
