The points system for nursery admission in schools is expected to remain the same this year as well. With the directorate of education saying there won’t be many changes in the guidelines for nursery admission other than the time frame, schools are looking at implementing a points system similar to the last year.
Weightage to distance, alumni and sibling are expected to dominate the points table this year as well. “We have been taking into account the directions of the HC and the directorate of education when it comes to the points system and have not gone wrong so far. This years’ points system will be more or less the same,” said Ameeta Wattal, principal, Springdales, Pusa Road.
The school has given points for sibling (30), alumni parents (25), distance (20), minority criteria (5), girl child (5) and transfer cases (5) last year. Most other schools had similar points systems.
“There is no better mechanism to conduct the admissions fairly and we will be sticking to the points system,” said RC Jain, Delhi State Public Schools Management Association.
But for parents who have not studied in Delhi this is bad news.
“Giving so many points for alumni is a death blow to us. Both my wife and I are from towns in Uttar Pradesh and are, therefore, disqualified from taking admission in most top schools,” said Abhinav Rana, a legal consultant in a private firm.
“Alumni mean individuals who have studied in the school, usually till class 10 or 12. The RTE says no points can be given on basis of education of parents,” said Sumit Vohra, founder, admissionsnursery.com.

@Sherry, Max point to distance we are demanding (50 max out of 100)
There is no use giving maximum points to distance till other categories exist. If I benefit from maximum points to distance others too will benefit. But if I benefit from alumni others may not.
Dear All,
As per RTE, neighbourhood schooling is to be encouraged. Secondly most parents would prefer education of their wards in same schools for different reasons. Thirdly transferred parents faces difficulty in getting a seat for their ward.
My suggestion to Revision of point system, hence will be :-
Distance : 50 (50-40-30-20) - To abide RTE neigbhourhood criteria.
Sibling : 20 - For max opportunities for edn in same school with distance points.
1st born : 20 - To provide balance chances to 1st born with distance points.
Transfer : 10 - To provide opportunities with distance & 1st born points.
Total : 100
On survey, very few seats were filled by children from single parents and special needs. That is why, I do not want points to single parents and special need children and also for minority.
Plz comment.
Maharam Ji i think these points would be acceptable to everyone or majority
I agree. Alumni points should totally be eliminated. I am watching the results of schools for the last two years for nursery admissions. 99% admissions were given to either alumni, sibling or transfer cases. Not even a single chile (atleast in good schools) was admitted on the basis of DISTANCE POINT and First born child point basis. I am the victim of the point system for the last two years.
I would like to propose following admission system for Delhi schools:
80% of the non-EWS seats to be filled as per the following criteria:
Distance up to 1 km: 100 points
Distance up to 3 km: 80 points
Distance up to 5 km: 60 points
20% of the non-EWS seats to be filled by the 'alumni', 'sibling', 'single parent', 'physically handicapped' and 'transfer' cases. A separate draw of lots will be conducted for these 20% of the seats. Only those kids will be eligible for this draw who failed to get selected on the distance criteria.
Maharam Sir
Good equations which can be worked out and acceptable too.
Hi,
Where is the tool to Poll I am not able to find.
Just below GIIS banner in the center text box above groups
The whole Delhi admission process has become a big joke. We are fighting for seats in schools which have no sufficient infrastructure but huge egos. I would like to advise all to shift to NCR schools which have better infrastructure and good academic and other record.
