Delhi nursery admission tough, parents look at NCR schools

Naveed Iqbal : New Delhi, Mon Oct 15 2012, 01:34 hrs

Wary of complicated rules for admission to nursery classes, parents are making a beeline for schools in the NCR where admissions opened in September.

In Delhi, schools are yet to begin the admission process for nursery classes as they are waiting for Directorate of Education to release guidelines.

Cambridge School (Noida) vice-principal A K Bakshi said: “The number of admission seekers in Delhi is more than the number of seats in Delhi schools as of now. So, for parents, Noida becomes a favourable option. Also, NCR starts the admission process earlier than Delhi. Getting a seat takes off a lot of burden from the parents’ minds.”

Bal Bharati School (Noida) principal Asha Prabhakar said Noida has a number of good schools. “There is a sense of insecurity among parents in Delhi as there is a shortage of seats. We get a lot of applications from Sarita Vihar, Mayur Vihar and the surrounding areas,” Prabharkar said.She said this year more than 25 per cent of the total applications received by the school were from Delhi.

Parents are also happy to get an assured seat for their child. Riya Sidana, who lives in North Delhi, said: “I had heard about parents applying in more than 20 schools and still ending up nowhere.”

Sidana (Parents of AdmissionsNursery.com) chose Scottish High School in Gurgaon for her twins. The school admits students on first-come, first-serve basis.

But there are a few schools in NCR that follow the point system, used in Delhi. The Shri Ram School in Gurgaon admits students based on a 100-point scale, of which 25 per cent marks are based on an essay to be written by the parent on “relative role of parents and educators”. Thirty-five points are awarded to staff or sibling or alumni category.

Sumit Vohra, founder admissionsnursery.com, told Newsline, “In NCR, the admission process starts from end of August and goes on till December. Some schools follow point system, draw of lots, first-come first-serve and more than 90 per cent of the schools do screening.”

He said many parents from Delhi are planning to block seats in Noida and Gurgaon schools, and then check if they can get a seat in a Delhi school for their child.

How many Delhi Parents staying near Noida and Gurgaon are planning to take admission In ncr or block the seat.

Sakshi many of my known friends are trying for schools in Noida as after expressway  "its just 45 minutes drive" same time to reach Springdales pusa road or Manav Sthali or D.P.S R.K puram from north delhi.They are trying for schools like Sriram Noida,D.P.S etc as the admissions in these schools are going on.

I feel that the admission criteria in the school are more stringent and are totally based on the whims and fancies of the school management, since any child born does not only learn from the womb of the mother but he learns mainly when he comes to this world. Further judging a child from what he knows and his intellect is mainly the criteria which is being seen by all schools which are well settled and established. This aspect has led to ignorance of those child who are born from the wedlock whose either parents are not educated, but the parents are well settled to bring up their children. Further without any interaction of parents and child how any rejection can take place if the form has been accepted, is this not leading to discrimination and will and wishes of the school and his management. There are school which are making fill the forms for registration and thereafter a form replying to the questions raised. I feel that the pattern is an improper pattern since there are chances that the parents may not be a good writer but he may be a good orator and it is only when a person meet then his passing or failure could be decided. Further I further feel in the earlier phase when education was imparted the intellect of the child and parents were not seen by the Guru or the teachers but the Guru or Teacher used to groom up the child without any discrimination or intellect. Lastly I further feel that it is the school only from where the child is given a way of education.

very well said puneet i was not even shortlisted for interaction by amity,dps,fas,sommerville as i temporarily stay in 1 bhk lig flat as my own flats possession delayed by 6 months.

Last year parents moved towards NCR school options after waiting for 2nd list and this time parents have moved ahead of Delhi admission for a secured seat. This migration of state for education purpose is due to the failed admission process in Delhi. Government should come forward atleast for a uniform point system this time.

Lathaaji,

you are spot on.

@Lathaa, you are absolutely right.
