City anchor: Nursery season back, parents get down do the math again

The nursery admission season is back, and so are the worries of parents. For parents whose children could not secure a seat in a preferred school last year, the struggle will be tougher now.

According to government norms, only three-year-olds can be admitted to nursery and the children who applied for admission last year would not meet this criteria.

Very few schools take in students in kindergarten and the number of schools that begin with KG classes is even lower.

Sumit Vohra, from admissionsnursery.com, said: “Last year, parents of children who could not make it (to preferred schools) in nursery will have a tough time as there are very few single-gender convents in Delhi that start KG. These schools have very few seats in general category. Also, other schools do not have many vacancies in KG class.

The dilemma has forced the parents to consider schools in NCR as an option. These schools do not follow the point system, giving the children a better chance of admission.

Schools will announce vacancies in KG classes in February — after the nursery admissions are closed — depriving the parents of a chance to reapply in nursery.

Last year, Ankur Gupta applied to several schools so his son could secure a nursery seat. But the child did not make it to any, forcing Gupta to admit him in a small school in his neighbourhood.

“I am hoping that when schools open seats in KG, I will be able to shift my son to a better school. But we may not even find out about these vacancies as they are not notified,” he said.

Hello Sumit,

Is it possible for you to start a separate thread for K.G Admission whenever the Admission process start? It would be great help for the parents whose children could not secure a seat in a preferred school last year.

Thank You,

Ok,

Thank You Sakshi.

I concur with the statement given by our founder Mr.Sumit Vohra. Delhi Govt. should come with the upper age limit for nursery admission in its guidelines. It can follow the  Kendriya vidyalaya guidelines for admission process. Here an upper age limit for admission is fixed as the minimum age limit plus 2 years. No child would be eligible for admission in a class if the age is more than this maximum age prescribed. The maximum age would be relaxable by 2 years for handicapped children.
