Form Dates | Admission Criteria | Results | Fee Details | List of All Schools
Very good news indeed. I was also jumping in my seat hearing this but that happiness didn't lasted long.
This step would help eliminating fake cases but how does it make difference to our chances now. Hardly any!!!
Parents like me whose kids are not figuring in any selected or wait list, often go into shelter of statistics to remain hopeful. I tried to do some analysis of eligible lists of various schools in my locality.
DOE's step of reconsideration has brought some ray of hope and thus I want to use this forum to convey more steps which are required.
Apologies for such long message but really hope that it can catch up and we have chance to be heard.
Here goes the analysis..................
Average number of applicants in any school: 4000
Average number of transfer cases: 100
Average number of schools applied for: 20
Average number of seat in any school: 100 (General Category)
This means:
1. On an average, each applicant is trying luck for 20(school) X 100(seat) = 2000 Seats. Initially(in first list), these 100 add transfer cases will block all 2000 seats, assuming even they applied on an average in 20 schools. But eventually, after first round of admission, they will occupy JUST 100 seats and 2000-1900 seats will again be open for draw/waitlist.
So, elimination of transfer point will bring some rational to initial draws but is drop in ocean finally.
Yes, one persistent advantage would be fair chance in top 1-2 schools of given location.
Bigger problem or for that matter real problem is probability even in fair game. In every school, I m trying luck for 100 seat + lets say wait list of 100=200 seats out of 4000 applicants. so, probability of being lucky in school of choice is less than 5%.
Even bigger problem is that those who applied only in 20 schools are fighting for place with 4000 candidates for 2000 seats. Means probability of not getting through in any school is as high as 50%.
So, one solution could have been that everybody applies in 40 school and be ready to accept admission in any school of locality. I see it more as trouble and compromise than solution and then we already missed it.
Now when DOE has realized and took this major step, let them think rationally about new point system to avoid such situation again.
Dear Parents, this forum has very high visibility and AN team has quite good approach to DOE or media. Lets try to contribute and convey some unbiased, rational ideas.
My idea:
Two things which I feel really important for our little kids:
a) Least travel time, so important to have preference in nearer schools.
b) Somebody to take care of him in school, so sibling point
rest all is insignificant or should be diluted in our scenario where there is serious problem of demand and supply. So, thinking on these lines:
- Distance points should still be scaled on distance slab, so that everybody get better chance in very near schools.
- Second/third child should get preference in school of their sibling but then let these kids give way to others in other schools. One way is to introduce some points(but lesser then sibling points) for first child.
- Personally, I don't see fitment of points for alumni cases. Still, if "loyalty to school" is valid rational, let there be some reservation and others get fair chance on remaining seats.
- This point may bring lot of argument against it but still I don't see any logic in giving reservation to girl child by Mr LG. Reservation makes sense as a compensation to somebody who has been deprived of fair chance in past OR as a recognition to some distinguished thing done in past. In general category families of metro city like Delhi, I think it would be rare that girl born would have been deprived of something. We talk and respect EQUALITY to girl and this reservation is still Inequality even if its in favour of girl.
Working out point system based on these logics:
1. 25% quota for EWS
2. 05% quota for Alumni cases
3. 05% quota for staff
4. Sibling: 20 Points ( Highest priority and thus almost sure chance in school of their first child)
5. First Child : 10 Points (these 10 points will limit chances of sibling cases in other schools)
6. Distance
0-2 KM :70 Points
2-5 KM : 65 Points ( gives still better chance for first child here as compared to sibling case with 70 distance point)
5-8 KM: 60 Points ( let sibling with 70 distance point and first child ready to travel so much be on same level)
Above 8KM: 50 Points ( so much travelling is torture for kids and let everybody else including siblings with more distance points get better chance)
Eliminating transfer points is ofcourse welcome news but surely not sufficient.
Regards
Ashish

I agree Ashish, Had pretty much the same thought....The distance points have to be slabbed...Sibling have to be given importance. Alumni have to be given importance. Even now the 5 points of the transfer cases should be given to alumni so that if there is distance and alumni you are at a 80...enough to get a seat.
I don't say don't entertain the transfer cases but do these in the mid of the class session if needed.
