I: Even as the wait for nursery admission guidelines for the academic year 2011-12 continues, public schools in the Capital have reiterated their preference for 100-point system followed till last year.

They conveyed the same to the government, which had asked for their suggestions.

The schools said conducting a lottery within various categories for nursery admission, as suggested by the human resource and development (HRD) ministry's guidelines under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, is unjust.

“The point system is the most transparent, child-friendly, rational and objective way for nursery admissions. Parents have a fair idea whether their child will make it to a particular school in the point system and hence they apply accordingly. But with lottery system one is left at the mercy of luck and parents will be subjected to insurmountable anxiety,“ said Ameeta Wattal, secretary of National Progressive Schools' Conference and principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road.

She also added that public schools be allowed to retain the management quota.

Principals have also pointed to the inherent contradictions within the RTE Act. “It says children be admitted to neigbourhood schools, but with lottery, it is all about chance,“ said RK Sharma, principal of Ahlcon Public School in Mayur Vihar.
He said due to lack of quality schools in the neigbourhood, parents are often forced to apply to far-off schools.

i think schools are also agree with the parents concern (put forward by Mr. Vohra), no one want this injustice (draw of lots) for their children. Point system is acceptable to the all parent community.
Points system is better than lottery but LOGICAL POINT SYSTEM SHOULD BE THERE.

No Points for ALUMNI - TOTALLY ILLOGICAL

No points for PARENTS EDUCATION - EVEN UNEDUCATED PARENTS HAVE RIGHTS TO GIVE THEIR WARDS THE BEST SCHOOLING

No points for SIBLING - WHAT IF THE CHILD IS FIRST CHILD , AGAIN TOTALLY ILLOGICAL

No points for SCHOOLS - THESE 20 POINTS FINALLY BECOME THE DECIDING POINTS FOR CHILDREN AND MANAGEMENT CAN PLAY OUT THEIR DIRTY GAME WITH THESE POINTS

So, POINT SYSTEM also calls for a MAJOR REVISION.
lottery system is totally illogical....hw can we leave the future of our children on luck..
n what happens if my child does not get a seat this year hw will i determine that she will get a seat next year also coz in a lottery its totally ur luck or ur bad luck!!!!
points system is not perfect but its much better than lottery...but the points system needs to be revisied so that it is logical n just
