NURSERY admission seems to have little room for children belonging to the general category.
Parents woke up to this rude reality on Tuesday as several schools declared their first list of candidates for admission to nursery classes.
Results announced by some of the ‘ sought- after’ institutions give the impression that admission is a prerogative of only those who have a sibling in the school or are children of an alumnus.
For instance, all the 77 candidates selected at Delhi Public School- Vasant Vihar branch have scored points either under the sibling or alumni category. Similarly, DPS- East of Kailash has shortlisted 56 candidates and only two of them haven’t qualified under either category.
All children selected under the general category at Mothers’ International School, too, are either of sibling or alumni criterion.
Pankaj Gupta, a resident of RK Puram, was confident of his son getting through in Ramjas School in his neighbourhood.
But just living in the vicinity of a school, he realised, was not enough.
“ I was scoring 25 points under the neighbourhood category. When I went to check the list, I was shocked to see that all the children who had secured the general seats have done so either under alumni or sibling criteria,” said Gupta. “ Is there no room for people like us?” The number of general seats has shrunk this year because of the 25 per cent reservation for children from economically weaker sections.
To make thing worse, city schools started setting aside a sizeable chunk of seats or giving maximum points for the alumni and sibling categories.
The results on Tuesday just corroborated that.
“ The education minister ( Arvinder Singh Lovely) announced in December that those who do not qualify under any of the criteria set by the school will also have seats set aside for them. That would have solved our problems,” said a parent who didn’t want to be identified.
It’s not clear if the minister’s announcement wasn’t communicated to the schools or the schools didn’t pay any heed to it.
“ I know a lot of parents who could not secure admission despite applying in 15 schools. They have to keep their children at home,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of an online forum on nursery admission.

Pay admission fee and block your seat immediately and don’t wait for other schools to declare results
Keep all original documents ready
It’s best that both parents go to take admission.
Some schools insist on it
Don’t lose hope if you haven’t secured admission, as most schools will bring out the next admission list on Feb 28

it seems like schools dont understand, people cannot have 2nd child first to allow first child admission..this is total fraud. I really wish some one from govt interfers. i attended Queen mary's draw and before draw they declared that they have 58 seats for general and they already filled 43 seats and draw was held for 15 seats and almost 900 people attended the draw. no one was there to answer how come they already taken 43 seats without notice..this shows schools don't care about the policies set and who so ever has juggads in schools can get easy admission....all crap

Yes I was also there at Queens Mary Draw it was total fraud .. no transparency. Only people selected from Draw wich were not present for draw.

Yes, this is true that schools are doing things according to there own wish. My daughter scored 43 pts in Adarsh Public School , Vikas Puri n couldn't get into the first list ,though those who score 39 pts or 40 pts made it in the first list. When asked about all this they said that we didn't reach to ur block which is D- block , Vikas puri which is just 5 mins away . We have taken students from C Block , A block n near bye sites. If this what they say then they should have given points according to block wise.

st. Thomas school (Dwarka Sec-11, Goyalla) has been displayed the selected candidated list for nursery addmission 2011-12 on 31.01.11. but they have not displayed the marks of the candidate. it is totally fraud.

This system is horrible! My daughter who scored points for neighbourhood criteria and few points for girl child, has not been able to get admission in any of the schools I applied in. Some schools took out a waiting list too, on lottery basis, and she has not been able to make it. Her disadvantage is that she has a brother who is in an "all boys" school. Therefore she does not score points for "sibling " or "first child" either. Such cases where you cannot secure admission in your siblings school, should be at least treated as first child.
I am wondreing how my daughter is going to get her "Right to education" .

i am vikas bajaj, we live in central delhi and having best schools of delhi surrounding us within 3 km of range.though we have filled up far distance school as well in the skeptive fear that if we will not got any admission in the nearby schools.
now i am shocked that in the below school my first girl child name has not come
bal bharti rajinder nagar [[within 1 km}
salwan public--------------[within 1 km]
gd salwan-------------------[within 1 km]
sadhu vasvani-------------[within 5 km]
springdales- pusa road [within 1 km]
dps mathura road--------[within 8 km]
modern school-----------[within 5 km]
i do not have almuni/sibling in the above school and we have only 25 to 30 points for above school critiria
now where we have to go ??? my child is very active & having a fast grasping power, but if she will not having a good platform they how she will grow is the life????, this year will be ruin , it she will not get the admission !!!!!!!!!!
i really very discourage and going to write about this to mr. kapil sibbal/arvinder singh lovely & sheela dixit about this & i really want those parent support also those are having a pain like us. rgds vikas bajaj--mobile no--9560590200

I have the same problem. Im within 2.6km all schools whch u have listed above.. i hve scored 40 points in Bal Bharti but still NO... same is the case in Ramjas Day boarding/ Ramjad public school... Now wht we wll do...

Thanks a ton for sharing your views. even i am also falling into the same situation. Schools are playing into their monopoly wishes. I have been active into this media industry from last 8 years. Will certainly raise this issue in front of the Education Ministry. I secured 70 points in a school but couldn't get my kids name in the 1st list.
Wht will happen to our kids' future?? Do Indian Ministry want us to transfer to a different state altogether??
They have to answer all these questions in front of us.

My son could not make it to the school where my daughter is already studying as they have taken the criteria of neighbourhood for the first list and teachers have requested me to wait till Feb 15 when they come up with the 2nd list which might have sibblings into that and the school name is KIIT World School, Pitam Pura.

the results have confirmed that the boys don't have any right to education in any good reputed school. I ask Mr. Lovely "Is this your concept of RTE".
