Nothing called a general category
Mail Today Bureau/ New Delhi
NURSERY admission seems to have little room for children belonging to the general category.
Parents woke up to this rude reality on Tuesday as several schools declared their first list of candidates for admission to nursery classes.
Results announced by some of the ‘ sought- after’ institutions give the impression that admission is a prerogative of only those who have a sibling in the school or are children of an alumnus.
For instance, all the 77 candidates selected at Delhi Public School- Vasant Vihar branch have scored points either under the sibling or alumni category. Similarly, DPS- East of Kailash has shortlisted 56 candidates and only two of them haven’t qualified under either category.
All children selected under the general category at Mothers’ International School, too, are either of sibling or alumni criterion.
Pankaj Gupta, a resident of RK Puram, was confident of his son getting through in Ramjas School in his neighbourhood.
But just living in the vicinity of a school, he realised, was not enough.
“ I was scoring 25 points under the neighbourhood category. When I went to check the list, I was shocked to see that all the children who had secured the general seats have done so either under alumni or sibling criteria,” said Gupta. “ Is there no room for people like us?” The number of general seats has shrunk this year because of the 25 per cent reservation for children from economically weaker sections.
To make thing worse, city schools started setting aside a sizeable chunk of seats or giving maximum points for the alumni and sibling categories.
The results on Tuesday just corroborated that.
“ The education minister ( Arvinder Singh Lovely) announced in December that those who do not qualify under any of the criteria set by the school will also have seats set aside for them. That would have solved our problems,” said a parent who didn’t want to be identified.
It’s not clear if the minister’s announcement wasn’t communicated to the schools or the schools didn’t pay any heed to it.
“ I know a lot of parents who could not secure admission despite applying in 15 schools. They have to keep their children at home,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of an online forum on nursery admission.
DON’T FORGET
Pay admission fee and block your seat immediately and don’t wait for other schools to declare results
Keep all original documents ready
It’s best that both parents go to take admission.
Some schools insist on it
Don’t lose hope if you haven’t secured admission, as most schools will bring out the next admission list on Feb 28

I am a mother of a son and do not have any Alumni / Siblings , have applied in 16 Schools.... but all without luck and in 2-3 near by school he had point upto 60 points in Tagore, 50 in Blue Bells and 50 points in Indian School but was not selected.
But only got selected in Dr Radhakrishnan International School, Defence Colony..... I really cannot make decision as regard putting him into this school since I did not get good feedback about this school.
Now that my son has not got in any of the renowned school because of this bad system what do we do..... we have no option left .....should we go ahead in getting him admitted in Dr Radhakrishnan or waste his full year and even though we wait for another year do we have any chance or possibility that he would get into a good school next year.... does any one has answers to my worries....
I have much doubt about my child's future in Delhi. Our decision in settling in Delhi has become a curse for my child's future..... I thought CAPITAL has much more OPPORTUNITIES in terms of Career and education than other state.... but this it WRONG....OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM IN CAPITAL HAS TO BE BLAMED ....MORE SO HERE ALSO CORRUPTION HAS TAKEN A FRONT SEAT.
no sir
i have sibling but my daug. also didnt get in any school
Parents can try Dwarka, Gurgaon or Noida schools. Dwarka schools like Indian Hts., Sachdeva Global, Queens Valley,Paramount, Delhi Int., Dwarka Int., NBS, OPG, etc. which have even better infrastructure than some of the reputed schools of Delhi. As the area is developing, they have more capacity.
I got to know that even some of the reputed schools of Dwarka have few management quota seats left. For that parents have to personally visit the schools and check.
LASTLY, I feel ROARing on the forum/group is no more beneficial.
TRUTH is Schools already did, what they want. Your child is out of race. Keep him/her at home. There is no place in schoiol for him... admit this.
Everyone is happy now, parents of selected children, education minister, and school-walas (as they are also vendor).
I don't know what is RTE. I forget everything as it makes no sense on shouting making it base. There are many more things, which we have to learn... Corruption, Bribe and False-docs.
May be by next year, I could.
But, till then, You all will forget everything happened this year.
BYE
I also applied in 13 schools, including the schools in which I never thought of enrolling my child, but still we r unable to get her name in the desired school.
Her name is shortlisted in Bharat National Public School. I don't know much about this school.
Now, I'm in a dilemma as to what to do???
Should I get my child enrolled in a school which I hv not much heard about??
I have no other option left with me.
I don't know whether I shud go after the brand or should I go for the school on the basis of its infrastucture, etc.
Big dilemma!!! what to do????
I can't play with the future of my kid.
God please help us....
Yadaa yadaa hi dharmasaya, glani bhawti bharatah, abhyuthaanam dharmasaya, tdatnaam srijamyhum....
Only some magic can save us now....
