Miniscule second lists for nursery flout rules, disappoint parents
New Delhi, Feb 8, 2012, DHNS:

‘List lacks transparency, most schools encouraging backdoor entries’

Some schools in Dwarka and south Delhi have come out with their second list of nursery admissions, but parents remain disappointed.

The lists contain mere eight to 10 names, in addition to the ones in the first list.
Like many other schools in the Capital, these institutes are flouting Right to Education Act guidelines which state that the number of students admitted in nursery should not be less than the strength in a class that has the highest number of students in the same school.

Less students admitted
“Schools do not abide by this guideline because of lack of infrastructure and teachers in their schools. Plus, they also admit less number of students under the Economically Weaker Section category,” said Khagesh Jha, a Delhi-based advocate.
The second list in these schools came as a big disappointment as parents were expecting it to include the names of 40 to 50 children - similar to the number in the first list. Sneh International, Summer Field and K R Mangalam schools face this charge.

“K R Mangalam in Vikas Puri and Greater Kailash II have put up a list on their noticeboards which has only 10 names and all begin with alphabet A,” said Taneet Arora, an anxious parent.

He added, “I tried to ask school authorities whether the list was incomplete or if they were coming out with another list but they did not respond.”

He has applied for his daughter's admission in 24 schools, but is yet to find a place for her.

Arora added that some schools have asked parents to return after February 15 to check if any seats are left.

Other parents echo similar thoughts.

“There is no transparency because if you see the list they have not even mentioned the points given to each child,” said Nidhi Aneja from Punjabi Bagh, Delhi.

“My house is five minutes walk from the school. I could not get even one seat, but I have spoken to parents who have got admission for their child though they stay almost eight kilometres away,” she said.

Meanwhile, K R Mangalam School authorities in Greater Kailash II said: “We will come out with a third list only after the admissions are done. But currently we are admitting only children whose names have appeared in the two lists.”

Many parents are not hopeful of getting their children's admission this year.
“The list are not transparent and most schools are manipulating them by encouraging backdoor entries with hefty donations,” said Sumit Vohra, founder of admissionsnursery.com portal.

Earlier everyone saying "If you did not get admission in first list don't worry, wait for second." Now WHAT? With this open, unrestricted, uncontrollable malpractice admission seems to be impossible without paying hefty donation.....

@Sumit ....Can we please plan for a dharna against such practices? I don’t think waiting for second/third or any list will give any result. We can try to ask parents to come forward and give proof against schools.

Manu , we did a big dharna covered by 24 media channels/print media no action taken against a single school.  It was not on jantar mantar  but outside doe office last year on same DATE 9 FEB 2011 , we took police permission so that no parent is harmed.

parents can take initiative ..300 plus promised to come LAST YEAR and  BUT HOW MANY TURNED UP WE KNOW

All the parents can decide and see how many come . ??????????????????

@ Manu

Already many parents have got their kids admitted. Only a very few left off. Last time when Mr.Vohra met DOE Director he told him why not become before the declaration of results.

Though i have managed to secure seats for my twins. I will be more than willing to such a meet as i know the pain that me and my husband have gone through.

We applied in 27 Schools and managed a seat in only one of them, that too was not our choice but what can we do.

Some schools in Central Delhi like St. Thomas have not disclosed the points for selection. They are to announce a second list next week but it is most likely that the list would contain nor more than 10-12 seats. It is not clear whether they made a draw for the purpose. Although, I find that a child who was selected in the first list and she certainly had scored the same points as scored by my child who was not selected.

Even if you reside in front of the school, they do not find your child suitable for study in the school. But, if an alumni lives 8-10 km. away from the school, the school prefers to admit his/her child.

Even if you have been residing in the neighbourhood of the school for a decade, they do not consider your child fit for admission. But, if a person comes to Delhi on transfer during the last one year and lives 5-8 km. away from the school, they find his/her child fit for selection !

The school prefers the child who has a sibling in the same school but it does not give same advantage to the first born child who has a friend living next door and studying in the same school.

The future of a child is being determined through a draw of lottery. So, they want you to accept the factor of luck as the most important phenomenon in the shaping of future of your child !

i second you srijan
